I have this weird feeling that they will never implement custom matches.
Edit: I think the easiest method to improve competitiveness would be introducing a ranked system that makes players eligible for Bungie sanctioned tournaments. Of course the ranked playlist would be seperate from their main one.

I don't think it'll happen until we get a proper sequel. Part of the issue (though not one I think would be difficult to get past) would be how to tie custom games into the Destiny universe. Crucible as it stands exist within the same universe as the PVE elements. Probably just something where Guardians can test their gun skills in unsanctioned arenas.

But it could be like leave of legends DOTA, wow. Incredible pvp scene. Destiny doesn't need MLG. It only needs a way for a clan to face another clan. Nothing more

They wanted to do something new, which is effectively trials of osiris...thats it, that is there vision of true comp pvp....shame it lacks things like dedis, custom rulesets, proper matchmaking... The clan setup is a joke in this game...I played killzone before destiny which has clan matches...that is what I wanted for destiny, hence I stopped playing the trash pvp

In that case there shooting themselves in the foot. And they must be profiting so much they don't need the extra publicity and revenue esports would bring. Like it does for many games that have lasted.
