A Ghost's Legacy - Chapter Two

The light I once felt comfort for no longer holds me. Now I hide from it. The beam sweeps paste in circular motions across the open field of dirt, searching for me. I hide from the fallen ship behind a rusty brown car, searching the nearby skeletons for any trace of the DNA the Guardian holds. Nothing. I have been searching the European Deadzone for a week for any trace of the one I am supposed to find. Every hour I feel like giving up. “Nope. Nope. Still nope,” I say to myself, “This is stupid.” CRASH! The huge fallen ship destroyed the pile of rust and metal several feet away! Why do they want me so much? I wonder. The ketch looms ever closer to the speck that is I. Flecks of blue flash past my vision, crashing into the tires behind me. I take off in a flurry of motion, and in the night sky it is impossible to see me. Where to next? I think. A piece of paper flies by and hits me, making me swerve and head back to the ground. I shake the paper off and am about to take off when something catches my eye. A map. I check out the details and think a bit. “Cosmodrome, here I come.” The scout and his guards creep over the ledge, staring at something in the distance. The scout holds up his hand in a signal to stop and looks down the scope of the wire rifle in his hands. A small light drifts across the Archon scout’s field of view. He chuckles to himself and hands the wire rifle back to the vandal next to him, gripping his own tool of death instead. I drift across the cars in the new daylight, taking in the summer air. Automobiles are scattered across the wreckage of what once was an interstate bridge. “That looks like it hurt,” I comment about a skeleton that clearly had something smashed through its head. Still not the one. A Fallen roar echoes in the distance and I know I don’t have time. I’m a Ghost, after all, and I need to find my guardian. After skimming over a few broken down cars, I see something glimmering in the distance. I drift over and study the object. It is a knife, buried in the ribs of a skeleton. I scan the bones. Positive. Excitement builds and my hope is raised. “There you are!” I breathe. This is the second chapter of my new series, A Ghost’s Legacy. I’ve been looking for time to write this so no promises on when the next chapter will be out. Chapter One: https://www.bungie.net/en/Clan/Post/823422/175943804/0/0
