What needs more skill in PVP!? Sniper or Shotgun? Just curious to see what majority of the forum users believe takes more skill. I am not talking about any other game, so please don't compare to anything else (BO3, Halo, etc) Feel free to express your opinion why sniping/shotgun take more skill. Happy trials folks! **Btw if yall could bump or like the post so more people get to see it* would be greatly appreciated!**
snipers all day
Edit: Thanks for everyone's input! As many have said it really takes no skill for either weapon if your are just camping a lane/door**

  • Has anyone else ever wondered why people call sniper rifles "snipers"?

    • I dunno I think there's skill in both. I generally suck ass when I run a shotgun but can dominate when I have a sniper. I think knowing when to rush and using your mobility effectively requires a lot of skill for running shotty. dragscoping, quick scoping, utilizing angles and map awareness requires a lot of skill for snipers.

      • Currently the only shotgun the requires something close to skill I order to get a one shot is the chaperone. Snipers are kinda wierd in the fact that server communication plays a part in getting a head shot. So I guess the ability to place a dot on somebody's head is considered skill more so then a big circle on someone's chest 3 feet from you

        • Hardscope. Doesn't take skill, if someone aims at a door for 2 minutes just to get a kill. Trust me, seen that before, both enemies and my teammates. I just shake head, no , they weren't doing thorn bounty.

        • Generaly snipers take more skill(I'm a shotguner), but there are definitely times where shotguns take skill too.

        • Snipers are for the most part opportunist killers who prey on those not paying attention.......Shotgun guys who only use Conspiracy theory-D or other high impact one shot guns with blink are the epitomy of no skill. So for me, i'd say both are equally as "newby" although there are exceptions. The people who have skill are those who are successful against a huge playerbase only using one type of gun like one-shot shottys (that's about to get nerfed) lmao.

        • They both just take different types of skill. With snipers you must have patience and quick aiming and accuracy, plus a firm judge of how safe you are in your current spot. With shotguns you must be able to move and react quickly and then evade attacks, since you have to deal with such close range combat, as well as get into the perfect range to do damage, as being too far away will get you killed and getting too close is dangerous.

        • It depends what sniper. That 1000-yard state with hidden hand and short gaze basically aims for you

          • I think it depends on how you snipe. Camping and pre aiming corners takes very little skill.

          • I've used shotguns since the beta. While sniping takes more skill, saying shotguns take no skill is not true. They are high risk, high reward weapons (more so after their range reduction again), and the timing is very precise.

            • Sniping takes way more skill than trading a kill for a kill. How rare is it you run into a guy who's good with a shotgun and you beat him to the shot? Usually you're gonna trade on shotguns. With a sniper you're only gonna trade if you're both nice with quick scopes and/or drag scopes. Basically if it's a sniper vs a sniper the better sniper is gonna win. With shotguns it's gonna be a trade if you're both good. So I say snipers take more skill. Regardless of aim assist. Nobody can just pick up a sniper and start getting headshots without actually practice. But I can get 30 kills with a shotgun easily. Even if we're trading.

              • Snipers take the most skill, but it was not cool that Bungie gave everyone a sniper with pretty good perks and an aim assist that's super high.

                • I'm not great with snipers, but 10 x better in destiny than anything else. In my opinion snipers should have 0 aim assist, and shotguns shouldn't 1 shot from across a room...

                • lol jokes. Highest aim assist of any snipers I've ever seen in a video game and out you in little to no danger. Sure the aiming on a shotgun is nothing and takes little skill but the timing of when to jump in that room, how many are there? Do they have shotguns, have they used a grenade yet? Do they have two? Do they have a super? Can I take two with this super slow fire rate? Will they teamshot me with primaries? Which ones?

                  • Lol yesterday I had to do the part of the chaperone bounty with shotgun kills. I decided to run universal remote and my sniper, and I DESTROYED. It was my first time using a shotgun in the crucible for months, and I picked it up and started pulling double, even triple kills out of my ass. I mean multiple team wipes per game (playing skirmish). Whoever says shotguns take skill is an idiot.

                    • I like both guns alot, but invective is a shotgun so you can guess what gun I use in PVP. I find shotgunning to be very risky especially since I'm more of a passive player. I also think that a few snipers are a little OP (final round Spear, 1000 yd cuz its aim assist) but most of them are well balanced. I suck at sniping but I respect the pros. If you headshot me with an eirene I'll know it was "skill". I don't like how snipers can still headshot me when I'm blasting them with my scout rifle. They need to up the aim deflection of snipers alot so it's fair

                      • I always use snipers with the exception of 6v6 crucible because there are too many shotgun nerds to cope with when using a sniper. I use my invective in those situations but I feel so dirty not using a sniper, especially using a shotgun with ridiculous fire rate and one that regenerates ammo.

                      • I love how people say sniping needs skill. If i had a dollar for everyone who "sniped" somebody by camping at the end of a hallway waiting for enemy heads to consistently appear on the same Y axis(much skill such wow) , I'd buy Bungie a new set of devs to actually balance the game, starting with sniper nerfs.

                        • different skillsets... Shotguns are for folk with good mobility fast thinkers and even faster fingers... (Snipers can be used in a very similar way as shotguns utilising the same skillset "aggressive recon" style) Snipers in the main use tactical thinking in their positioning (controlling sightlines) and need great aiming accuracy and fast target acquisition to be successful (don't need the run and gun abilities of the shotgun user but better tactical thought and accuracy) In battlefield 3 an interesting study of the playstyle/skillsets of differing age groups was conducted and found that older players tended to play slower and more tactically and the younger guys relied on their fast reactions (younger players scored higher but older players had higher k/d's generally speaking)

                        • If we're being honest neither really take all that much skill since sniping in destiny is hilariously easy with the aim assist and shotgunning is also pretty easy. Sidearms and fusion rifles take more skill.
