I hope the skills you've learned in Destiny will help you with the Marines.

He has a point.... things you learn from Destiny and the Bungie Forums that will ACTUALLY help you, in the Marines or Army: - Dealing With People Who Don't Listen to Reason: If you can avoid hunting someone down, IRL, over the outlandish bullshit they've said on the forums, you are probably tempered against losing your cool with actual people, face-to-face, who do the same crap. - Resilience in the Face of Conspiracy Nutters: The military is FULL of people in tinfoil hats. Every squad has at least one "what if..." guy. We see this on the forums, all the time, over Bungie-related stuff, but also it seems like every raid party has a a guy who goes off on politics and how Obama is out to get us all..... unsurprisingly, that guy is usually ex-military. - Elitism: You are going to run into a good-ol-boys club, in the military. It's everywhere. You'll get passed up for promotions, put on crappy work details, involuntarily volunteered for the worst time-wasting nonsense, and in every other way, completely screwed over by people who don't think you're "cool" enough for their little club. Kind of like lots of people on LFG and the forums. You know how those asshats are always complaining because the game is too easy, or begging for unnecessary nerfs, or pointing out ways people are getting away with actually having fun? OP is going to find out that there's a real-life equivalent to that. And just like in gaming, the "powers-that-be" actually listen to them, for some reason. - Gjallarhorn and RNGesus... Sorta: No, there's isn't some all-powerful rocket launcher in the real military. And you don't get handed special weapons and armor after a mission or training event. But, the concept exists in the real military in that you will hear about all this cool shit DARPA is developing, all the time. But, you'll never see it. Special Forces/SEALs/Force Recon will be running around with that cool stuff, while you're putting in WAY more hours than them, and still lugging some piece of shit M16 or M249. Also, medals and other awards/decorations work like this, too. If IRL RNGesus hates you, good luck getting that Navy Commendation Medal or ARCOM that someone else got for doing WAY less than you. - DDoSing.... Again, Sorta: Instead of some 13-year-old punk sending a bunch of crap packets at the server to ruin everyone's fun, then call himself a "hacker" on Twitter, what happens in the Corps is that some 0351 is going to get sauced to the gills, do something that violates at least 20 laws (5 of them will be international laws), cause a minor diplomatic incident, and piss the commander off badly enough to where your whole f**king unit is going to get put on lockdown for 6 months. One guy, pissing on everyone's fun, because he couldn't act right. - Immaturity: Face it... Marines and Soldiers never grow up. -Class Rivalry: Instead of Hunters and Titans dogging on eachother while Warlocks facepalm, you're going to witness Infantry vs Everyone Else, FiSTers* vs Infantry, Army vs Marines, Marines vs Navy, Enlisted vs Officer, etc, etc, etc.... whatever category you belong to.... EVERY category you belong to, there's going to be someone who hates you for whatever bullshit reason, and they're going to take every excuse to piss in your Corn Flakes. - Dicking Around at the Tower: Your company AO pretty much will be the tower. People will f**k with eachother. There WILL be "dance parties". You'll have loners sitting in or near the trees, and probably on the roof if they can get away with it. You'll wait for everyone to get their shit together and go do something. Only difference will be trying to imagine what the Tower would be like if Zavala occasionally came out to yell at everyone for having too much fun, and made you sweep the puddles or paint Master Rahool's booth, for no goodly reason. *= yes, that's a real acronym in the military lexicon. Mostly used by the Army, a "FiSTer" is a JTAC/Firesupportman/Artillery Scout/Forward Observer.... the guy who calls in artillery fire and air support on the target. 0861 in the Marines, or 13F in the Army. I was that MOS.... lots of fun. Cayde-6's personality will give you a pretty good idea of what FiSTers are like.
