To some extent I agree with you. The only difference of opinion I have is that I've never seen any game get this many balancing and hot fixes. They really do try, so they have already spent a lot of money paying their devs to tweak, successful or not. Now destiny is dying in bungies eyes because now their money is getting spent on making destiny 2. The fact that they still pay any attention to trying to fix things at all is impressive.
Also most of the big ticket things we all want it wouldn't make a smart BUSINESS decision for them. Private servers to ditch p2p, very expensive hardware costs and very expensive programming costs. Plus you never know how jacked things will get with the whole new system they would have to roll out. Things might work fine in house, but bugs exist everywhere. It's impossible to fully test any non-trivial system. Private matches, wouldn't be that bad.
People forget that bungie is a company, and they spend a lot of money treating their employees well, especially in pay. They need to make money. Also engine restrictions are a major issue for the game right now. So yeah they didn't give us what we want yet, but I am still happy with it overall, and if they don't improve these things in destiny 2, like a better engine, dedicated servers, private matches, and just a good new story or experience then I won't even bother buying it.

Every mmo I have played has updates like this

Yeah a lot actually. Every cod from world at War onward, titanfall, evolve, destiny, the evil within, resident evil, forza 3 through 5. Few others I just can't pop off the top of my head cause it's been at while. But name at game that still gets at least 1 update or hot fix about every month? Especially one that is 2 years old, and less than a year from being replaced?
