They also said you could take all of your gear to destiny 2, but what would be the point of taking an obsolete fatebringer to destiny two in 2 years?
I think they had in all honesty planned to keep all end game weapons at near equal attack values forever but something changed along the way.

Exactly the point, people fail to see why though and based on statistics there's a reason for it which they have explained.
