So as most of us know, the VGAS were held in America last night.
22 awards were handed out to a multitude of games, including Splatoon, Super Mario Maker, No Mans Sky & Rocket League.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt took home the ultimate prize with the "Game Of The Year" award. To be honest they deserved it.
Destiny: The Taken King was only nominated for two categories;
Best Multiplayer
Best Shooter
Destiny: The Taken King lost both these categories to Splatoon (a game in which I have never even heard off, but I'm going to look into it later)
Just wondering if anyone has any thoughts? Would you have chosen any other games to take these awards?
Do you think The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt deserved the best award of the night?
Share your thoughts here.
edit: as someone mentioned below. Splatoon also topped Halo 5, COD: BOPS 3, Rocket League and Battlefront.
Edit 2: Great comments guy, keep them coming. I'm trying to reply to you all but I'm in work! I will get round to replying to you all. Great to see a thread with a good discussion for once.

Like you said, Splatoon beat out Destiny AND every other AAA fps game on the market, so no worries there. But really, isn't Destiny in a game category of its own? I like to see it as a "Jack of all trades", but without the negative connotation that comes with the "master of none" part. Destiny does many things well! But Halo 5 beats it in competitive, Fallout beats it in Story, and so on. The fact that Destiny combines all the elements cohesively, is what makes it a great game. Just my two cents :)

Edited by Onyx Guard: 12/4/2015 1:42:13 PMTo be honest, splattoon was a different concept. You couldn't kill your enemy, only restrict their mobility. It was also a very team based game, focusing on area control rather than hunting for members of the other team. Call of duty is it's normal copy and paste self. No innovation, lack of balance, and far too much hand holding. Halo 5 and destiny both follow that casual approach to "competitive" multiplayer without offering anything new. Halo 5 has way too many micro-transactions and stays away from the balanced halo arena formula, relying instead on playing large amounts of time for the hope of unlocking what you want (sound familiar?). The hyped story of "searching for the truth" never existed. Instead, it was an extremely short story with a lot of repetition in enemies that is cut short right when it gets interesting. The game also centers around a side character rather than master chief, and the "hunt" between the two is ended with a cutscene in which they throw a few punches. Also, breaking established cannon to bring back characters as an way to bring back the fans lost after halo 4 (why is Buck a Spartan? He hates everything about Spartans). Also, Palmer is still alive, which losses a lot of points in my book. Destiny offers very little new ideas outside of marketing and rng addiction. Special jumps for specific classes or characters and unique chargeable abilities is nothing new. Randomized weapon drops are nothing new. Emotes (which are still extremely limited) are nothing new. The game quickly discards the effective ability to use old content while offering very little new in return. And the classes are always conflicting and arguing amongst one another over versus matchmaking balance, forgetting that the classes were clearly made to complement one another (each weakness of one class is another's strength) against ai combatants in the "epic" story that we never got. This doesn't mention the new bungie's treatment of both long time fans and loyal fans/players of the game.

The Taken King was not a game it was an expansion marketed as a game to justify the price
-
Wait...they lost to Splatoon?...XD
-
When Splatoon rekts all the major publishers and their fans get salty.
-
Just watched about 2 minutes of Splatoon gameplay, and for it to have won best fps makes me wonder the age of the voters....
-
I'm happy with Witcher 3 being picked game of the year. It's an amazing game. But like most of you I'm shocked that splatoon took home best shooter. Just no.. has the shooter genre been taken over by nickelodeon watching bed wetters?
-
Actually i knew witcher 3 would win it when i finished the Bloody Baron quest.
-
I am still wondering how Splatoon beat Destiny, Halo 5, and Blops 3. I've seen the gameplay, it's not all that great.
-
No Mans Sky- Most Anticipated. Affirmative.
-
I knew Witcher 3 would take home the award, but I don't agree with the decision. So many stronger games that were nominated. My pick is Fallout 4, and had it released earlier in the year, I believe it would have won. Although, I can't remember the last time I agreed with the game that took home GotY, so I guess my taste in games varies differently from the voters.

A platoon I freaking garbage I played it and was bored with it in under a week, plus it's on Wii U! No one plays on Wii U anymore

Edited by Deadbutt: 12/4/2015 1:07:47 PMSplatoon will kill destiny.

Edited by Lord Fried: 12/4/2015 8:49:13 PMI bought Witcher 3 on Black Friday and I'm loving it so far. CDPR has gained alot of respect from fans as well. Never was a fan of MSGV so I can't speak for it. As far as Splatoon winning...that sounds ridiculous.
-
Nintendo paid them off. That is the only explanation.
-
It was bogus that kojima couldn't come to accept his award. Chuck you konami
-
MGSV should of taken GOTY. It's the only game in that category that did something different, story was shit sure but it stands out next to fallout and the witcher.
-
I just went and watched 2 mins of Splatoon game play....... I followed it up by repeatedly slamming my head between a door and is frame to remind myself that there are worse things...
-
Based on the fact that Splatoon won that award I think Nintendo might be blowing off these guys
-
I just watched a gameplay video of Splatoon. What the literal fućk did I just watch ? That beat most of the AAA titles ? Kind of speechless right now.
-
The reason for this is the jury is made up of middle aged men who dont really "get" modern fps shooters and have nostalgia for nintendo. I mean seriously splatoon is better than cod, halo and destiny? Lmfao fúck off.
-
I'm agree with most choices except for splatoon for best shooter?? Maybe It's because I haven't tried it lol. But to beat games like halo and destiny it has to be awesome. I hope It wasn't one of those let's give it an award for being unique and not horrible kind of things
-
Edited by Erijian: 12/4/2015 7:48:36 PMSplatoon is one of the most fun games I've played all year tbh.
-
The biggest upsets of the game awards was Splatoon winning Best Shooter and Best Multiplayer over Halo 5: Guardians and Destiny The Taken King (Ain't gonna mention Call of Duty because they never gonna win) and Rocket League winning Best Sports/Racing over Fifa 16 and Forza 6. Wtf just happen?
-
Edited by xcutioner_0: 12/4/2015 7:46:43 PMI'm just glad BO3 didn't get the GotY award It doesn't deserve it, like how a few years ago GTA V won GotY because of sales numbers only. it's the same thing here. But Splatoon beat Destiny?! THAT'S BULLSHIT!
-
1. Splatoon deserved it's win, it is a spectacular game for it's style. 2. *prepares for the incoming salt storm* I don't believe Witcher 3 deserved Game of the Year. I honestly had my vote for Undertale.
