I just played my first 3 races and was last in each one of them.
What I noticed os that every other sparrow went faster than my sparrow, how is that possible?
I'm holding L2 down as far as it can, took as many shortcuts as I could, but no results.
Is there a way to boost even more in SRL than just holding L2 and making use of R1 and L1, because that would make sense from what I've seen.
Edit: I just won my first race! :D thanks everyone!
Edit 2: Important!
I just switched from controller and went from an average of 110~120 to an average of 130. Normal controllers, nothing special about them. Might help other?

Keep inside lanes and hard brake tight turns so you can slingshot yourself through them
-
No one seems to utilize it in my races but side boost is the only way to consistently out maneuver other guardians.
-
Get a fire team of 5. -blam!- up the one not in your team. Result.
-
Fps kids never played pod racer on n64 ;)
-
Pay for the sparrows I guess
-
Do you have a hair-trigger mode on your controller?
-
git gud

just kidding lol, im not paying a fcuking dime for that nonsense so I'll never know
-
I still don't know how to do tricks haha
-
A lot of people will probably disagree with this but I prefer to use the time breaker, the boost on it is insanely high compared to other sparrows. I use the right trigger boost a little before and after I hit a gate which boosts my speed considerably from around 120 to 150 and I've gotten it to go up as far as 180 before.
-
Hit as many gates as you can. Use the dodges sparingly, usually around most corners or making sure you hit the gates. When doing and kind of just (even the fairly small ones) hit up on the d-pad to do a trick emote. When you land after doing a trick you will get a boost to fuel, letting you do more tricks.

Edited by xxcyprustormxx: 12/10/2015 1:11:17 AMHit as many boost gates as possible, but don't be afraid to skip some if they could ruin your run like throwing you into a wall or tight turn, learn the map and shortcuts, and this is the biggest part right here, I can't stress this enough, USE YOUR SIDE BOOST (or strafe, whatever you want to call it) it can mean the difference between making a tight turn or smashing right into a wall. NOTHING is as important as the strafes, I promise you this

Edited by Redstag Rambo: 12/10/2015 1:10:15 AM5th is my best, one more race and I think Im done. I was in second one time right before the end and my speeder decided to blow out if no where so I finished 6th.

SRL is not fair. Sign my petition below to have Skill based match making on SRL. The event is not enjoyable when you keep getting stomped game after game after game. https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/178975674/0/0

Race your racy thing really really fast.
-
Know your corners and dont be afraid to miss a strategic gate to capitalize on a turn. Know where and when to boost too. You can slingshot a few corners by dumping your boosts. Took first from fourth by doing that on mars. Tricks are great too. Always do them.
-
Short cuts, gates, stop using the brake for turns use strafe instead. Do tricks to keep strafe up. Don't be afraid to ride aggressively. Find the line.
-
Hit the gates and take shortcuts bro

Know map!

1) Play jet moto a lot as a kid. 2) Profit.
-
Well I have one all my Races 19-0 since yesterday in 1st Place. Just hit the Gates, learn how to use rhe camera to drift more. And press RT to brake for sharp turns. Evade enemy shots. And push people out of the way of the gates with the dodge button.
-
Most people tell you to ease off the accelerator when it comes to sharp turns, me I personally wait till it looks like nearly missed the corner then I use the bumper to push me into the right angle, so I get full speed when going around the corner which allows me to overtake people Source: A SRL Racer who has never come 4th, 5th or 6th
-
Tap Right trigger to make really sharp turns. Other than that, know how to use bumper side-boosts effectively, and how to efficiently take the shortest distance on the normal path. Bank to angle yourself towards the next gate after the one you're about to hit. Stuff like that.
-
Boost, take corners on the inside and side boost into them to keep momentum going where you want it to go. That's it if you're right and you've got the shortcuts down.

Equip Mida Multi Tool while you race for a 2x bump in speed.
