Elite: Dangerous, Space Sim Extraordinaire

Good afternoon #Gaming. It's Doc here with a quick message about the popular space simulator Elite: Dangerous. There seems to be a lot of hype going around for the new upcoming game No Man's Sky. The hype is founded I feel mostly due to its massive scale. Truly, we have not seen something so large and magnificent before. This game will be fun to explore in and find just the unique quirks that make this unique game awesome. It's coming out for the PC and PS4 sometime next year (knock on wood) and I hope it has an amazing release. On the other hand, there is a game that is already out and existing on the PC, Mac, Xbox One and soon, the PS4. That would be Elite: Dangerous. I'm gonna tell you a little about the game while comparing it to its apparent competitor. Unlike NMS, Elite: Dangerous (ED) is a space simulator that you experience from the cockpit of your chosen vehicle. Within ED you will find a myriad of different planets, stars, ingame factions, and even player born factions. What this means is that ED offers a rich experience to the player that encompasses not just where you play, but how you play. Your actions, and the actions of many others, can have lasting repercussions on the game world itself and will be identifiable ingame. If you want to kick a group out of a particular star system, you can. If you want them to expand, you can make that happen. You can participate in civil wars and public events/community goals for monetary gain, faction rep, and special prizes. One of the largest factors in me getting this game was the opportunity to make/find new friends to play this multiplayer game with. You can and will find real people with their own goals of survival or making it rich in this game. Elite: Dangerous offers to the player a 1:1 scale of our own Milky Way galaxy with recognizable stars, constellations, and applicable real world physics; it is a simulator after all. NMS will offer the players a large scale galaxy/play area to explore with procedurally generated worlds, flora and fauna. This large area is impressive and grand but your chances of meaningful interaction (at the moment) seem low and extremely rare. Elite: Dangerous is a part of game developer Frontier's 30 year ongoing game franchise and is the latest installment within that huge legacy. The company treats its players like family and frequently interacts with its player base and keeps them abreast to upcoming changes and possible ideas for the game. I know through interaction that their CM is friendly and responsive and is a great face that reflects well on a great company. Frontier is always developing this game. Their next expansion comes out soon for PC and Mac and in early 2016 for Xbox. Feel free to ask me any questions below in the comments
or you can call me names, I don't care
If you are interested, there is a group that has formed here on b.net with similarly minded individuals dedicated to Elite: Dangerous. We don't want anyone to have to go out into the black alone so if you feel like joining or just finding out what we're about, search for ED Archive. We accept all skill levels, noob and vet, and have all levels of dedication within our ranks. Have a great day everyone. - DocHNIC
