I've linked the reason why I can never consistently land this jump to that perk. If I change the helmet to one without that perk, I make the jump fine. As soon as I put the helmet back on.. The video happens.
Bear in mind I'm not even touching the left thumbstick throughout the video (except for at the end to flip in frustration). One of my friends pointed the problem out when he got a new helmet and tried it out. He started failing that jump too so I saved videos and put them together. :)
Edit: A few people have suggested holding backwards on the left thumbsticks in order to make the jump, I can confirm this works. Though I still think the helmet shouldn't decrease your standard momentum like that! S'gotta be a bug, surely?
Another edit: Thanks for letting me know that you can hold back on the left thumbstick to land the jump, I now do that all the time. I still feel like the initial trajectory shouldn't be altered just from wearing the helmet, we shouldn't have to hold back just to make a normal jump!

Try reading the whole perk it might give you a clue

Edited by squally409: 12/14/2015 9:10:18 PMThis is helpful i thought it was just me.. even when i pull back i either get bumped from behind and spiral out of control or catch the ledge and slide down into the abyss slowly.. ill just change the helmet

Like Cayde 6 said. If you are going to wear that kind of helmet, you will now have to "manage" that jump. 1. Make sure you hit the last gate before that "man cannon" so that you take enough speed into the jump. 2. Hit the cannon as dead center as possible so that you don't hit the wall mid-jump and lose speed. 3. The perk TURNS YOUR SPARROW INTO A AIRFOIL (an airplane wing) Pull back on the left joystick to put your nose up and get more lift. This will take some of your speed off, but you will float far enough to clear the jump and have relatively soft landing. Pus the stick forwards once you are confident you are going to clear the jump so you minimize speed loss. If you miss the last gate or you get bumped going through the man-cannon....you have to go on the defensive. Pull the stick back and nose up for all your worth to make sure you clear the jump. Whatever time you lose due the hang time and speed loss pales compared to what you'll lose if your sparrow fails to clear and gets destroyed.

Pull back on the stick because if you read the perk Push forward=down Pull backwards=up Pulling back will slow your fall and you will be able to make the jump

Looks like the perk unlocked for me, but I can't "buy" it, it's locked out maybe?

Edited by CarnivalLaw: 12/14/2015 5:02:54 AMHey JB. I cited your post in my own Community feedback post. The edit at the bottom. Again, great catch man.

That looks like the boost isn't activating when you go through the gate. Like a glitch or something.
-
Pull back on the left stick you will get more air to clear the jump
-
I find the lag stops you from doing emotes which give you boost cuase it still thinks your on the ground and not in the air. And the whole 6th place gets more boost than 1st place is broken cuase if you can't do the Mars jump while in first 60% of time no one should be able to do it.

Happened all the time when I had the racing helmut on. Changed to a regular helmut and it hasn't happened since. Maybe bungie would admit that. If they do respond it will be. We are looking into it.

I've experienced this as well, but have found I am faster around the tracks with that perk because getting back to ground faster after a jump means less speed lost while airborne, as for the particular jump in question, when I reach that one I pull back on the stick to make sure I get across. I just want them to fix the jump so it doesn't punt you sideways into the pillers halfway across the abyss after getting airborne so you stop dead (and then drop dead) in the middle of the gap.

Holy shit! Changed helmets and haven't missed that jump once!
-
-
BUMP!! Happened to me too. Had to disable that perk.
-
I have never missed that jump, but I might have to check it out.

I can testify that you are right. i always use a normal helmet on my racing gear.
-
this is correct
-
bump again this is important to me

I'm going to change helmets and give it a try. I wondered why the heck all of a sudden I was struggling with that jump. I wonder if it started after I unlocked the perk in my helmet. Great catch!

You need to pull back on L until you cover the gap then push forward to drive it down to land. There's no problem with the perk, it just adds to you needing to control the sparrow while airborn.
