Let me start by saying that I have absolutely nothing against the game mode itself other than its lack of matchmaking, but unfortunately the players who participate in Trials continually destroy the game for everyone else. I know it's a radical suggestion to remove an entire game type because of player behavior, but I'm not sure anyone is going to want to keep playing the shell of a game that Trials players leave the rest of us.
The problem is and always will be nerfs.
Since Trials inception, it has easily been the single biggest contributor to nerf posts on these forums.
- Thorn was essentially erased from this game because of Trials.
- Hand Cannons were AR'd because of Trials.
- Pulse Rifles just got boned because of Trials.
- Sunbreakers were probably doomed anyway, but the loudest cries for nerfs... Trials.
And as bad as all those were, now I'm seeing posts crying that Trials matches aren't fair because of MIDA and Truth.
Seriously go find a Chinese hell to burn in if you're going to cry about MIDA and Truth. The point of this game was supposed to be becoming more powerful and finding more powerful and awesome weapons. MIDA has always been a great counter to any "God weapon" in this game, not because it's OP, but because it's so well balanced and versatile from mid to long range.
But rather than find counters like MIDA, rather than grind for your own "God weapons" if you feel you can't compete, rather than get fracking good, we've systematically destroyed every weapon and class that was ever fun in this game.
Go shoot a goddamn Fusion Rifle. They're complete garbage. Collateral damage from the constant dicking over of weapons, all to "balance" one stupid PvP mode that almost no one plays.
Someone post those pathetic numbers they put up a month or so ago about how few players actually compete in ToO and the infinitesimal number that have actually gone to the Lighthouse.
So we're going to have all our weapons ruined in not only PvP, but PvE as well so probably less than 5% of the player base don't cry? I just don't get your thought process here Bungie.
I can tell you this though, there's not one reasonable or remotely valid reason to nerf Truth, MIDA or Scouts and if that unbelievably stupid thought crosses Jon Wisnewski's mind then it's time to pull the plug on Trials.
And to anyone who enjoys Trials, I'm sorry but there would be no one to blame but yourselves. Better you lose your game mode than be allowed to keep dragging the rest of this game down with your incessant crying for nerfs.
EDIT: Just to clarify because I'm being accused of having put up nerf posts #realbalanceisnotbalanced

If pvp went away all together is more like it. This game caters to cry babies esp pvp always has. But I haven't played in months don't care to game is trash the worst state its ever been in and is continuing to fall down hill fast

Anti bump:)

Just add matchmaking

Agree that nerfing has to stop. No one complained Thorn or TLW were too OP when raiding or doing strikes. If Bungie honestly want to have a legitimate competitive balanced pvp mode for the elitist, they need to: 1.ban exotics and legendaries. Just allow plain generic weapons without perks. 2.ban supers 3.ban radar 4.no health or shield regen 5.switching to a heavy or special(sniper) should take 1-2 seconds. 6.make new maps designed specifically to work with the above mentioned conditions This way pve would not have to be touched. Trials of Osiris should be a free-for-all game mode. Everyone vs everyone. Where only the top 3 players would move on to the next round. On last round the top player would make it into the lighthouse. No fireteams or LFG. Just classic deathmatch. Matching players based on their performance(score)

Bug of sol?

Edited by Melon: 12/15/2015 10:19:42 PMOR you could make tool kits and require everyone to use them they would change weekly weapons in competitive games like IB and trials and make an elimination with those rules for practice hell we could make everything like that except mayhem if you wanted you could also ban all subclass abilities then it's a win win pvp is more competitive and pve doesn't get nerfs.
-
They should just normalize ToO so that everyone uses the same weapons, same armor, and same perks. This way it is actually skill based as everyone is on the same playing field. Hell, make it like Halo multiplayer with weapons around the map that you can pick up. You want the OP weapon? Then fight there and get it first. Either way, PvE and PvP needs to be separated.

Bump.

Sols obviously something needs to be Done about the constant flux of nerfs but throughout your entire post you failed to account for one thing. Bungie is currently working on destiny 2. All of their current patches have been seen, at least in my opinion, as fluff pieces to appeal the masses. If the masses cry loud enough mida and truth will be nerfed regardless of trials or not, because that is the state in which current bungie is in. Just as their claims of wanting rotating metas is seen as a ploy to hide their inability to code a balanced one. sols as passionate as you like to be it seems your favor for the mida and truth is making you a bit too emotional in this regard and leading you to answers such as destroying what little content is actually in this game at the moment to stop nerfs. Those are the type of radical actions that have brought us here to this very moment.

Hmmmm... I think weapons get nerfed because Bungie (or Jon Wisnewski) feels it needs to destroy whatever weapon class is used most. Auto rifles were destroyed long before Trials existed and I can't remember anyone asking for it (only to nerf SUROS). Bungie just saw that everyone used auto rifles and felt a need to destroy AND to give pulse rifles and hand cannons a HUGE buff at the same time. And that's what they've been doing wrong ever since. DON'T ever buff and nerf weapon classes at the same time. If one class is good but not TOO good, LEAVE it alone. Just buff the other classes. Pulse rifles got a huge buff (around 10%) at the end of 2014 or early 2015 (can't remember). Now they're getting a huge nerf (again around 10%). So which one was the right call Bungie? Or can you finally admit you people are insane? Why can't you ever try the middle ground, ever? Why not buff a weapon type with 5% that is not used a lot or nerf a weapon type with 5% when it's the only thing people want to use? Why always the insane buffs and nerfs? Sorry Sols, got carried away. ;-)

I think if trials had never existed those weapons would've still been nerfed. Just my take though. Good conversation to be had regardless.
-
What about the issue of legendary engrams turning into nothing. This should be fixed. On a note to what you said, yes it was my understanding that we were to become stronger to fight the darkness, not have everything nerfed to shit.
-
Interesting.

-
Get rid of it Or make it a swat type scenario from halo Only 1 set of weapons all act the same no more nerfs Also seriously make the weapons behave specifically in crucible and specifically in pve You showed you could do it with shotguns Showing us there is no excuse to affect weapons in both areas

Edited by Trontium: 12/15/2015 8:13:03 PMAt first when I saw your title I was about to roll my eyes. However. You make a salient point. I dabble with trials now and then. But not enough to rage at any particular aspect of the meta. What HAS made me angry is the constant dicking about with the powerful weapons and space magic which make the game FUN. I WANT overpowered guns! I want my super to turn me into a new God! It makes PvE a joy. The thought that appeasing the hyper competitive "MLG's" makes me spit teeth...
-
Edited by Pack93z: 12/15/2015 8:14:32 PMYes... PVP as a whole is driving this game and destroying any sense of diversity in PVE... but removing a game mode seems radical. In D2.... creating different attributes for the weapons, thus seperate meta's between PVE and PVP seems much more prudent. I concur... the point of the PVE game is to become more powerful ... at the moment, each nerf undermines that completely.

I like how we have Sols to write all the rants that we want to write, but don't feel like writing. It's useful. Plus, his posts are some of the most thoughtful and reliable posts out there.
-
I'd like to point out that fusion rifles (particularly Vex) were ruined before trials existed, but it was the same people plus more within the PvP crowd.
-
I don't understand why they don't put matchmaking in trial, like just becaise it has matchmaking doesn't mean that you can't form a group, and matchmaking=free win
-
Edited by SugaComa: 12/15/2015 7:51:59 PMI came in here ready to laugh at you for being a butt hurt cock ... I was wrong, your argument is valid and we'll put and I am going to side with you on this ... I wasn't before ... Good post
-
Its the cricible/ pvp crowd that calls for nerf. I dont know why ur singling out trials as the main reason. I havent once stepped foot in trials but i dont want it removed from the game. There are others who enjoy trials.
-
Edited by Queen of Hearts: 12/15/2015 7:38:02 PMDid you get hit in the head? It's your choice to do it and you shouldn't be bossing people that it has bad matchmaking because it doesn't, I find Mach in 10 seconds and they are usually people who are noobs or people who know what they are doing, and actually thorn was always op and needed to keep as a yr one only
-
Edited by StrayTen437900: 12/15/2015 7:43:06 PMWhy would you want to get rid of it
-
Remove the rest of the game instead
