I know we are a week later and the Oryx challenge is live, but I tried finding answers to THESE specific questions but couldn't find any posts that helped.
A little background, me and my fireteam are only 4 and we learn to 4 man the raids and then keep trying until we get it done. So far we have been able to 4 man KF a few times. We were able to 4 man the War Priest challenge. But after using the EXACT specifications that we saw last week for the Golgoroth challenge, we did not complete the challenge. Keep in mind this is NORMAL mode.
Our method was the modified challenge mode 1 orb strat (only way I saw to 4 man it):
1) Of course 2 left/2 right, kill adds, make sure we had supers filled.
2) First 3 players take turns grabbing the gaze, while 3rd man is taking it, first 2 work on front left orb, then 4th takes it as orb is shattered.
3) First 3 jump into pit, we had one stormcaller activate super to clear out explosive thrall and any new ones that appear, the gaze man used a shadowshot tether, the other 2 are in the pool of light doing damage with black spindles (1 was titan with WoL bubble behind pool).
4) Once timer is done, jump out. I was stormcaller as well, so used stormtrance to clear the next wave of adds on my side to make orbs for the other stormcaller and the nightstalker to recharge supers.
5) Repeat.
It took a few tries but we managed to get the kill with only 2 damage players in the pit, the tether and WoL were key in getting it done.
HOWEVER, WE DID NOT GET THE CHALLENGE COMPLETED. A friend of one of our fireteam members told him his fireteam got it done EXACTLY how we did it but they had a full 6 man fireteam.
So that leads to these questions that I can't seem to find an answer for:
1) Did this challenge REQUIRE 6 fireteam members/6 different gaze takers? (if so I can see why we failed right there)
2) If not, does it still require 6 different gaze takers? (even if with 4, two would be "repeats")
3) Are there any other requirements I did not mention in our setup? (i.e. different damage men, different 4th gaze taker, etc)
It seems we fulfilled the requirements that I saw posted many times here on the forums. I viewed a few youtube videos to verify that others were getting the challenge done this way, albeit with a 6 man team. But we didn't get the challenge credit.
Any help from some nice guardians in the community would be great. Thank you much.
UPDATE 12/16: It seems the general consensus is that the completion logic for the Golgoroth challenge is only satisfied with a 6 man team completing it. Multiple responses indicate the same thing happened to them on 5 man teams and as soon as they picked up a 6th person and beat it the same way that they got the credit. I wish Bungie would rework it so your 5 man or 4 man fireteam could get completion credit because IMO it's harder to finish the challenge with less members. Hopefully by next challenge. Thank you all for being kind enough to respond to all that did.

Honestly, I'd say try doing six gazes. But impressive y'all four man it all the time.
-
That's awesome that you guys 4 man it. But it's crappy that the code is set to 6 people and not set to recognize how many people are in the fire team if 6 are not present. If you want help in 2 weeks, add me on PSN.
-
Just out of curiosity, did anyone record the fight? If so, prove you four manned it so the community can at least try and encourage bungie to give you the rewards.
-
Good job on the 4 man. But you need 6 people to grab the gaze each time, it's not impossible, but you have to kill golgoroth on the first cycle before you hit 4 players. Very hard
-
First off, you guys are fantastic for 4 manning KF. Second, i think it might be that you have to take golgoroth's gaze 6 times. Try taking his gaze six times next challenge. If that doesn't work, then i dont know :\
-
We did the exact same thing with 5 on hard. Again, we got the same results as yourself. No challenge completed. Once we found a 6th and did it again (in the exact same manner) we got it done. I'm guessing the reason for needing 6 is because there are 6 orbs to take down (which when done correctly are all used in order to do max damage). Hopefully this helps you our for the next time the challenge rolls around.
-
You had to have 6. We did it with 5 but it didn't work. We picked up a 6th person and did the exact same thing and challenge completed.
-
6 different gaze holders per damage run
-
As far as I knew, you needed 6 different people. You could not have a repeat person.

Yes another bump to try and get other community members to reply.

Bump... really want to know guys.

I have no idea and or answer really. But have you tried passing the gaze around 6 times? If it didn't work you could conclude you need really 6 different gaze holders.
