A familiar voice, cold, metallic, American; disembodied, can be heard. The direction and positioning of the speaker seem impossible to detect, but they sound close.
Is it better to cry for the dead or to help the living?
English
-
"No body died." He says in a shaky voice, he chokes up, and tears swell in his eyes. "It's just, I can't-" He tries to finish his sentence, but can't. A moment later he collects himself and asks... "Why are you here anyway, I thought you hated me."
-
I don't mean the literal dead, kid. You're stuck in your past failures, unable to escape simply because you are unwilling. I don't hate you, or anyone else for that matter. With anger comes sloppiness, with sloppiness comes failure. I do not tolerate failure.
-
"She's going to forget all about me, throw me away, just like my foster parents." Tears stream down his face again.
-
What others think should not be your priority. We've all been used and abused by the system, by other people. You can't let other people determine your fate. But if you say you can't change the course of your life, you never will.
-
"How can you be so sure?" He wipes his eyes, feeling a bit better.
-
I've lived it. With age comes experience.
-
"And with experience comes wisdom" He mutters to himself. "But I need her, I'm nothing, just a puny guy who has stealth skill. I've got no muscle."
-
The only thing you'll ever need is yourself. What are you going to do when she's gone?
-
"Keep kicking."
-
There you go... That's the mindset of a survivor.
-
"But, how will I," He stops, and just hangs his head.
-
That's for you to decide, kid.
