Sniper Rifles: Overpowered Perception

TL;DR [spoiler] 1) statistically speaking, snipers and shotguns are balanced in 6v6. 2) sniper rifles dominate 3v3 activities. 3) availability of special weapon ammo needs to be adjusted for 3v3 and free-for-all. In 3v3 it shows us sniper rifles are by far and away the most lethal weapon period (Trials = 29%, Skirmish = 20%, Elimination 38%). It also shows that side arms and fusion rifles need some love... [b]What does this mean?[/b] I think it means that 6v6 crucible game modes are balanced. I think it also means that 3v3 game modes are heavily decided on the availability of special weapon ammo. Rumble is also heavily decided by special weapons where shotguns net 21% of all kills (snipers net around 7%). But don’t take my word for it! Click on the link and see for yourself!!! [b]Possible fix?[/b] Maybe snipers could stand to have a small amount of sway; seems reasonable, but I say leave the weapons alone for now and take a look at special weapon ammo in 3v3 and free-for-all game modes. What isn’t constructive is coming up with phantom notions about aim assist. Get to the heart of the problem. [b]Edit:[/b] [spoiler]Be sure to update the date range in GUARDIAN.GG for the latest stats. Pay "special" attention to the special weapons category. Notice 1000-Yard Stare at the top and Conspiracy Theory-D below it. They are given out by the Vanguard as quest rewards and are also amazing weapons, so of course they'll take spots 1 and 2. Also notice that list consists of "top 10" weapons: PSN: 6 shotguns, 4 snipers and ... XBL: 6 shotguns, 4 snipers and .... Compare the percentage differences between the three most used shotguns to snipers and the amount of shotguns listed.[/spoiler]

    • They are not a big deal in regular 6v6, it's in 3v3 game modes like trials where the imbalance comes into play.

      • I mean an easy fix would be to drop the amount of special ammo in PvP dramatically. A sniper's one shot one kill philosophy is based on the weapons power and lack of ammo capacity. Yet in this game I can stick up nearly 30 shots. Take them down to a max of 1-2 clips and people would be forced into using primaries as intended.

        • Same in PvE the Sniper made to much damage in comparsion too other Special or heavy Weapons. At Kingsfall Golgroth i make with the Spindle arround 76k for each hit but the Spindle shoots every secound, with the strongest Heavy Weapon Sleeper Simulant only 115k all 3 secounds. Without Arrow and without WoL. So the Spindle nearly mades the double Damage like the most powerfull Heavy Weapon in the same time. Sorry Guys im not a friend of nerfs but that inbalance is not good and should be changed. If i should solve it. I wouldn't nerf the Snipers. But for this very High Damage per Secound the Snipers should be moved too the Heavy Slot, that would solve that at most. For Heavy Weapon you allways find less Ammo than for Special Weapons, plus in PvP you first need too wait fro sniper Ammo.

          • Question: Mida and snipers haven't been changed once since the dawn of destiny, why are they all of a sudden so good,( they have the exact same stats as year 1. Stop crying and whining about both of them, maybe if you learnt how to snipe you would do soooo much better. You are only making yourself look bad when you post "Moda way to OP or snipers are way to good" You are making yourself look like re'ards Just go play a different game like cod and use your shotgun over there.             • I know aim assist on snipers dont do much, it benefits scrubby players but barely has effect on good players. Snipers are a HUGE problem though and they need a nerf. Big nerf on handling, zero aim assist and add sway or more recoil when shot at.

                  • Great post maybe the whiners will shut up a lil now. I don't see how snipers are op. But they are overused in trails and 3v3 game mode changing ammo drop rates won't help in my opinion cuz that still would effect other special weapons. the maps chosen for 3v3 game modes should be smaller and have less long range open areas which bring to say bungies team in charge of pvp maps need to look closer as there layout before they launch them in game like widows court that one needs a re-work

                  • Bump. If anyone has used no land beyond the sights move when you walk (unlike all other snipers which stay perfectly level) i think more snipers should have the reticle move like nlb

                    • There shouldn't be sway since headshots are the only time snipers are a one hit kill. Here are the reasons people think snipers are OP. They only see snipers because shotguns and fusions got nerfed into the ground, so snipers are better by comparison. 1000 Yard Stare is the only good sniper for PvP. Yes others can be used, but 1k stare is the perfect archetype, like LDR, Her Benevolence, Longbow Synth. In Y2 1k stare is the only sniper type of it's kind that's a legendary.

                        • In your edit saying "notice conspiracy and 1K Starr at the top" is a bit..bias. The availability of those weapons is far far easier than any other Sniper and Shotgun in game, ever. They're easy to get and come with a good roll, so many players don't drop it for anything.

                          • Everything about this makes sense. The people who can't see that Destiny's PVP is so unbalanced are virgin's who get their jollies using a 1000 Yard in a game that requires no skill to snipe. The 3v3 meta is only snipers and if you do decide to challenge them with your primary aka you get the jump on them and shoot first they just hard scope until they body shot you to death. The only counter is to grab a sniper of your own. You can rush them now because shotguns are gone and fusion rifles are too wonky and unpredictable. If you try to snipe someone and they are shooting at you with a primary you should not be able to hit them. Also snipers should be ineffective at medium ranges meaning you cant hit a no scope or drag shot if they are within a 20m distance. I have decided I am not playing Destiny anymore until they do something to address the snipers in this game. i know i know...who cares git gud see ya later

                          • I do think ADS on Snipers needs alot more flinching than there currently is. It should disrupt it so they still cant always pull off the headshot. That qould probally be all that is needed to reduce the kills from snipers imo.

                            • The problem isn't snipers, it is the lack of a mid-range option. Fusion Rifles used to be that option but have become useless in PVP.

If this was true you must tell me why now there are match like 3 vs 5, 4 vs 2 etc etc Because there are to many snipers around. The fact they get that type of perks, allow them to kill you even from the other side of the planet. And this isnt pvp.
