SRL The Pros/Cons & Summary

Hey everyone as many will know SRL is drawing to a close, [b]december 29th[/b] is its official termination date, it will be a sad day for many of us, it was a well received event and it provided something different to do. We have all found ways of improving times and getting better and of course the potential 320 Class and Helm gave us more ways to get our light level closer to that elusive 320. The pros and cons of SRL, I will start with the lows as I like to end on a high. [b]Lows:[/b] - Only 2 tracks, sure it was an event but it would have been better to see more tracks. - Only one set of gates for all 6 players to try squeeze through, along with sparrow physics didn't help people. - The environment getting in the way too much, we have all had it, riding along no problems then boom, the floor that your "hovering" over will throw you out the way, its frustrating and it would be nice if the floor didn't get involved as much as it does. - The gates themselves, a little bit "iffy", you can have gates you don't hit at all will give you a boost, then you will get gates you clearly go through and the game just says nope. - 1000 Silver to pay for a stats screen was a bit over the top, when you pay money you expect to get a product, not an stats screen. [b]Highs:[/b] - The competitive side to getting the fastest time gave many players a reason to play, something we have been searching for, for a long time. - The loot, it was very good, a side note as well, strange coins and motes, considering they are pretty rare, SRL is a great way of getting loads of them, personally went from 10 to 650 during SRL. - The 320 items provided another way to get your character's light level up which is always a good thing. - 3oC working on SRL was also a brilliant way of getting loot, plus you don't have to win to have it work, which was great. Overall though it was a very good event, it was not everyone's cup of tea but it certainly gave us something to do besides sitting in orbit, personally as long as free events come out to these standards with cosmentic only purchases it won't be too bad. The event has to have a feel of progression inside of it though otherwise many won't bother, which is why personally festival of the lost was a failed event. All it done was take up inventory space, sure it was fun and WAY better than last halloween where, well nothing happened, anyways im rambling, sorry. SRL all around great event and hope to see more of it with more diversity and variety next time, it seems a bit too mainstream, change it up and have a bit of alternating in there.   • SRL is a nice addition to the game. The racing mechanics are as good one would expect for a FPS/RPG/MMO hybrid game. That said here are some suggestions to make SRL better the next time around. 1. Maps. No brainer but we need more than two maps. 2. Different race modes. Now this may not be feasible if SRL will be more of a mode like Iron Banner coming around once and a while. But if SRL turns into a permanent playable mode, it needs more modes. A. Sprint Mode - One lap fastest person wins. B. Time-trials - Player has to reach certain designator by X time or they are literally disqualified. This game mode fills the leaderboard backwards as first person disqualified is 6th, second person disqualified is 5th, etc. C. Points/Scoring mode - Everything you do gives you points. Do X amount of tricks, get X points. Get first place, get 100 points. Kill an enemy, get 10 points. Get X gates consecutively, get X points. Kill another player, get X points. At the end of the match all points totaled up and player with most points wins. The biggest problem with SRL in my opinion is it wants to be two different things and it cannot. It wants to be competitive but it's requirements for being competitive are too easy (think more like a ToO). It also wants to be inclusive but it's requirements are too hard (think like IB where you can reach rank 5 by just doing bounties and get all the rewards). If SRL is supposed to be like IB why is each rank like 8500 rep points? If it's supposed to be like trials why is 320 gear dropping at the end of matches. I think SRL is a great addition for those of us who like racing. But there are some tweaks that can be made to make this game mode better.
