"How did that even happen?", I think to myself. "What even happened?" It's getting harder to breathe.
I'd been deployed to Mars to investigate a surge of Cabal activity. I'd set up camp in the cliffs overlooking a previously uncharted outpost. Everything was fine until the ledge gave way. Down the mountain I slid, coming to a stop only 15 feet from a Cabal patrol. Outnumbered, but I had the element of surprise. Bullets fly, the only other sound the satisfying *pop* of their helmets. Close call. Time to get out of here.
As I turn to flee, I find myself face to face with a Phalanx. I reach for my sidearm, but it's too late. Down comes the shield, and up I go - higher, and higher still. As I soar into the atmosphere, I can no longer see the Phalanx. Hell, I can't even see the outpost. Mars fades to a dot as blackness invades my vision.
I try to radio for help. Not that it matters. In space, nobody can hear you scr- *GUARDIAN DOWN*
