legend - Ghost fragment: Arbiter's code
[spoiler]I fought a king once. I never knew that even in a time like this, moral codes could still exist. The fallen houses always have always been a part of my curiosity and fascination. One would think them mindless beasts but when you look at them more closely you see so much more. They demand discipline among their ranks, if you lack it, then you lose your rank, status, sometimes even your arms.
As much time as we watch the kings they almost never leave. I don't like it when I'm not in on a secret, and one day that is exactly what I intended to do. Find the secret of kings.
When I entered I got almost to the main part of the command center before I realized I was expected. The Kell of kings, standing in the middle of the room, four swords in hand, and surrounded by the fallen but in more of a speculative arrangement instead of an ambush. The Kell spoke, in our tongue.
"I've seen you before, guardian. To the many that would use a gun over a true weapon, I have seen you always engage with a blade"
I could sense this Kell had something in mind but I remained silent and walked into the ring.
"I know what you think, Guardian. I too know your code. It is as old as time, and known to all who know the blades honor."
I understood what the Kell met. The kell's gaze remained solely on me, then threw two of his four sword to me. Even detached two of his arms.
"It is under this same code, this seal of true honor and disciple, that you deserve a formal duel. The matter of our fate will be decided by how we preform."
I claimed the blades, and accepted the duel.
I never did kill him, nor could he kill me. We left it as it was but before I left he titled me "Falchis, Archon blade", I had never known a guardian to be honorably titled by a fallen since the team that passed judgment on Skolas. He followed that up with what seemed like a warning almost.
"Blade, A day will come. You will see what form the darkness truly takes. You will see the reason the great machine abandoned us. You will see, what a god truly fears. I wish to ask you this. When this seemingly endless night comes, Can I trust you will raise your blade along my side? Can I trust to see you cut away at that which devastated so many of my kind? Will you stay and defend your home and your own, or will you run as your kind once tried before?"
I briefly turned to him to reply.
"A titan's sole duty to their very honor, their very will, is to ensure the safety of the wall and the people within them. I will raise my blade to any that wish to take away my people's strength. Can I trust you to do the same?"
I didn't give the Kell a chance to respond as I quickly slipped back through the entrance. I still can only wonder what he spoke of. A true darkness? Something the traveler itself feared enough to want to abandon those it has helped so much. Could that have been all we were to it? An army to defend it while it ran to the next "line of defense". Well now it has no choice, it will have to show it's true colors as well if it wishes to survive. And if what this Kell says is true, It seems so will everyone and everything else in this lonely system.
I'll enjoy catching back up with you, Kell of kings.
