You jump out of the way when you see him throw it. I can do it, so you can too.

I have the bad luck of lagging enemies. Even then, if the smoke tocuhes me I can't move AT ALL

If you have jump early enough you'll be high enough to evade the smoke.

It might actually be harder for a warlock though..
