"Don't destroy yourself for her sake. I'll bring her back. And if anyone is sacrificing themselves to save her, it's someone who is at the end of his rope"
John looked at the massive Fallen ship. He flexed his hand and felt slightly tired. Maybe his immortality had kept him preserved long enough. His Ghost was dormant. Maybe she should find a new Guardian.
John looked back and saw Eclipse continue to flood his Light into Averlia. He made a quick grab for the Ghost and took it from him.
"Enough. I don't need you to die. That's your own choice when you want that to happen. You are a Guardian still"
He rubbed his fingers on the glossy black surface. He felt how it rejected his heat. How it wanted to stay quiet.
"You can't sleep just yet. Not until I finally can drink myself to death"
John placed one hand on his sword and gripped the handle tightly. His knuckles turned white from the cold.
"I told you to go out on your terms. You decide when you die. Or it'll be decided for you. I chose inaction. And I still regret it"
John stared off past the ship to the slightly churning waves beyond.
"You know, I've been dead for about half a century now? But Death always robs me. He never follows through. And I always wake up"
