PH Chapter Two: The Roguish Leader and the Reluctant Operative

The Roguish Leader and the Reluctant Operative The Warlock quickly catches up to the man in the brown fedora, carrying a handful of files in her arms. Her heels click and clack down the long white hallways. Other members of the Concordat roam the halls, all of them dressed in formal suits and clothing with the Concordat emblem patched on. The symbol was everywhere, on the windows, halls, floors and walls. "Sir when the Consensus and Lysander gave you permission to assemble your team I wasn't expecting you to pick such questionable candidates. None of them appear to really be team players, besides Tesla and Edison, and they're not even cleared for field duty." The woman says as she tries to keep up. "Trust me I know what I'm doing. Sometimes you gotta bend the rules a little." He replies quickly stepping into an elevator and pressing a button on a nearby panel. "They'll work fine as a team." He replies with a wink. The elevator closes shut in front of the Warlock and the elevators whirrs as it moves to another floor. A woman types away behind her desk, her face light up by the monitor screen. To her left stands a large stack of paper and on her right are two smaller stacks. She finishes typing and takes the top sheet of paper from the stack on the left and places it on one of the stacks to her right. She takes a wooden pencil into her hand and begins to tap it onto the table. Once again she begins to type, her gaze never leaving the screen. She stops and grabs the top sheet from the left sack and places it onto one of the stacks to her right. He Ghost soon appears next her. "We have a guest." He cheerfully replies. She snaps her pencil in half when the man in the brown leather jacket and fedora appears in front of her. "I know why you're hear Shay, and I don't do field duty anymore." She replies without even looking up to him. "I don't know what you're talking about Chiharu." He replies playfully sitting on her desk. He takes his hat off and pretends to throw it towards a coat rack. He aims it and squints on eye while trying to target one of the arms of the coat rack. Chiharu rolls her eyes and lets out a sigh. He grabs a new pencil and begins typing once again. Shay throws his hat and it land perfectly onto one of the coat rack arms, he jumps up and throws his hands into the air. "Score!" He yells, several other workers nearby turn to stare at him awkwardly. "Nice toss Shay." Chiharu's Ghost comments. "Don't acknowledge him." Chiharu sternly replies shooting a glare towards her Ghost. "Thanks, anyway..."Shay begins to so before being cut off. "You want me for your special project for the Consensus, and I don't want to be part of it." She quickly interjects. "How'd you know about that? It's supposed to be classified." Shay askes confused sitting back onto her desk and begins to play with the random knickknacks on her desk. "Really? Every piece of paper work goes through me. Once I signed off on it I knew you'd come sniffing around." She replies. "What if I groveled at your feet? Perhaps I could serenade you?" "I think she'd secretly like that." Chiharu's Ghost chimes in. "No Shay, I don't do field work anymore." She replies as she takes one sheet of paper of the left stack and places it on the right. "Too bad, I out rank you. I expect to see you in Hangar F, ASAP, or in Lysander's office. Your choice." He says with a smiles and walks off. Chiharu sinks into her chair and glares at the back of Shay's head as he walks off. Once he was out of sight she turned to her computer and sat silently. "Oh, it'll be so nice to work with our old partner once again won't it?" Her Ghost commented. Afterward Chiharu stood up and throw her computer of her desk. The paper stacks went flying into the air. Everyone turned to look in her direction, some even left their cubicles. She calmed down and closed her eyes. She took a couple deep breaths and stormed off towards a set of stairs. "I better not have to enter any combat situations." She mumbled as she stomped down the stairs. Shay stands next to Leon inside of a large open concept room. There is a large lab and even a garage for working on jumpships. There are several workbenches with contraptions and devices beyond Shay and Leon's comprehension. Several computer terminals fill another section of the room. In a back area is a small lounge styled room and a series of bed rooms. Above this room is a briefing station, an armory, and Shay's office. "So who else are we waiting for sir?" Leon asked tapping his foot impatiently. "Tesla-18, Edison-12, and Chiharu Kozuki." He replies almost gleefully. "Chi-Chiharu?" He questions with a shocked expression. "I thought she retired from the field?!" "She did, but I have my ways." Shay replied with a smirk. "Oh and Abi Asiata!" He replies to turn and look at Leon. "You're joking right? One of those FWC crazies? They're messing with Vex tech they don't understand." He replies argumentatively. "Which makes her a powerful asset, She knows more about Vex tech than we do, perhaps we can use it to our advantage."
