So when we first heard about Destiny, who here was genuinely excited? I know I was. I spent months on end watching trailers and preparing for Bungie's great new entry into the gaming world. When the game released, I was psyched. I went down to my local gamestore and picked up my pre-order, slipped it into my xbox and went off to do something else while the game started up. That was how myself, and many others entered the game. We were exploring a new game, a new world full of adventure and opportunity..... only you know, the fact is that it kinda lacked either.
Now we all know what happened with tear one. So I am going to not mention that as to be honest, that has been mentioned a million times before. Instead I am focusing on the taken king; well that and everything Bungie could have done with it to help make it a lot more popular then it actually is.
1. They could have been a bit more considerate to those who never bought the DLC. Now I am not talking about letting them access the full TTK raid here, but they could at least have not taken away such content like the strikes or left in a loot system that awards legendaries that the player can not equip. Now I played a week of Destiny without the taken king when it first released, and that was the most depressing week of my life. I had nothing to do, at all in the game. Not only that, but it just felt like Bungie was actually punishing me for not downloading TTK on the first day. Many players who do not buy taken king are pretty much forced a choice straight away, either you buy the DLC or you can just bugger off. The fact is that what Bungie should have done is at least keep the game playable for people without the DLC, because then that does increase the chance to have them remain fans of the game and buy the DLC eventually instead of just being disillusioned and leaving with a bitter memory of the game.
2. The constant nerfing just to applease people. Now I am not on about the nerf-herding and bungie nerfing here. Because while Bungie do need to learn how to finely adjust things instead of completing ruining the offending weapon, another thing they need to do is stop nerfing weapon classes just to applease fans of a single weapon and stop them from feeling singled out. This is not me lying here, that is genuinely the words of Jon himself when he appeared on Guardian radio. Now there are areas where keeping all members of the community happy is important and keeping the game balanced and fair. Now sometimes you have to choose one or the other, and it is in cases like this where you choose the latter. When it was just Thorn and TLW out of an entire class acting up, that should have just been those two nerfed. Because the fact is that nerf caused the HC class to be rendered useless, which in turn causes people to have to move towards other primary weapons instead. In fact, this whole changing meta that keeps happening; that is entirely due to your trigger-happy balancing. You nerf one weapon to the ground, but you never focus on instead creating a niche for all weapons. The result is that you have a cycle with one unusable weapon, one that is under average, one that is a decent contender but still is below the standard of the final type and one that completely dominates.
3. The lack of communication between Bungie and the community. Let's face it, the only time we ever really get to see you guys raise your heads is when you are running promotional for a new DLC. You never really appear otherwise aside from very interviews like with Jon. Now this is part of the issue as well. The fact is that we feel like you are nothing more then crooks, because that is what we are feeling right now and all this silence does is worsen those fears. If you guys were to do live-streams before new sand-box updates where you demostrate the new patches for example, then that would at least be a start. The whole .4 scandal would never have existed if we could have actually heard you explain the updates while also note the new numbers ourselves.
