You're above average, it doesn't matter what anybody says, they're not thinking about it.
Let me explain, for every single kill, there is a death, which gives a global 1.0 kdr. After that factor in suicides, that leads to a slightly negative kdr globally.
So if you have a 1.0 kdr, you're above average statistically speaking, don't let anyone tell you different.
Also, people that want to bring your kd into an argument that has nothing to do with anything are grasping at straws because they can't make a legitimate argument against something you say.
Edit: There are people saying that this is to simple, that the mean average needs to be looked at. Basically if you take every players individual kdr, and then average all of them, I would be interested in knowing that number of bungie would like to do the work to get it, but I would still think this would work out to be slightly less than 1, if someone can explain how that may not be true I would like to know
Edit: Adding this quote from Sixclicks, if this is accurate then it's still very close to 1
To add to my other reply and answer your question in your edit, the average KDR is actually 1.049424.
You can get this number from Guardian.gg by looking at the average KDR of each subclass and the subclass distribution percentages.
So these are the numbers:
Sunbreaker: 1.06 kdr, 18.63%
Stormcaller: 1.04 kdr, 8.76%
Gunslinger: 1.09 kdr, 13.98%
Defender: 1.01 kdr, 2.14%
Striker: 1.03 kdr, 8.6%
Bladedancer: 1.11 kdr, 11.37%
Sunsinger: 1.01 kdr, 12.98%
Voidwalker: 1.05 kdr, 8.27%
Nightstalker: 1.01 kdr, 15.26%
So what you do is simply weight each kdr by subclass distribution percentage and then add it up. So you get:
(1.06 x .1863) + (1.04 x .0876) + (1.09 x .1398) + (1.01 x .0214) + (1.03 x .086) + (1.11 x .1137) + (1.01 x .1298) + (1.05 x .0827) + (1.01 x .1526) = 1.049423
Edit: it has been explained to me that what I'm looking at is a global kill per death ratio, as opposed to a kill death ratio per player, which in fact may be above one if you were to take each individual players actual kdr, and average them in that manner you would wind up with a completely different number. I can see how that would work, and I would be very interested in seeing the actual average kdr per player, on a global scale. However I still say anything that is positive is good, you help your team in terms of killing more than you die on a consistent basis.

The only reason I don't have a 1 is because I tried using green weps in crucible with little fps experience. I've been going up ~.05 per month
-
Damn, I wanted to read all that but I'm super lazy.
-
I was above average until I let my little brother play on my account...
-
I just wish I could have more games like these: https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/186429436/0/0
-
Res snipes ruin my trials kd :/ Otherwise I'm around 1.2 in every other game mode
-
How do you tell your kd? Most likely Mine is terrible because I always mess around with friends in crucible and trials but still lol
-
I think about .8 and up is above average because of all the scrubs
-
My k/D is around 1 but that's because I -blam!- around a lot! It's super fun to play a match with only throwing knives for example.
-
I use Last word and 1000 yard and i think my kd is a 1.31 and everyone seems pretty average to me even the higher level people
-
1.92 on my hunter human male(gunslinger) But is this average overall or?
-
Illuminati confirmed
-
Ha. Bladedancer wins :)
-
Im 0.9. Is that bad?
-
A reasonable, good thread. I like to read those. Thanks for that.
-
1.9 kd on warlock and I mostly use sunsinger

Damn, I've got a .97 I don't really mind tho
-
I see that logic. But there are more deaths than kills aka arketects and stuff. There's a way to add deaths to the global kd but not add a kill. Trials. We've all meet that team that just wiped just for passage coins. If you can take out suicide you be right.

Without suicides, the average k/d of everyone is exactly 1.0 because every time someone dies, someone gets a kill. So factoring suicide puts it under 1.0 because there are deaths of players without a kill for another.
-
Look at me mom, I'm above average!!!
-
Actually, the average is around .8.
-
Edited by Sixclicks: 1/14/2016 3:03:01 PMThat's not how the averaging of kill death ratios works. If we were playing 1v1 and I had 2 kills and 1 death and you had 1 kill and 2 deaths then our k/ds would be 2.0 and 0.5. The average of those two ratios is 1.25. Not 1.0. The overall k/d of the entire community combined will always be below 1.0, but the average of individual k/ds does not follow that at all. Do people even math? Or are you all just idiots?
-
This data could be skewed. What if a bunch of people play every day since release and goes 0-30 every game till now. Having a 1.0 doesn't necessarily mean you are good if the majority of people are negative kdr.
-
Your assuming everybody plays 100% all the time, that everyone tries to win every time. Its a game, I myself don't care if I win or loose unless I'm running IB then I can capture top score if needed, but it's not the point of the game unless your playing trials or IB. .....are you having fun? Yes? then good, your playing the game the way it was meant to be played....your way, that's all that matters.

If you have dedicated servers you are above Bungie
