You're above average, it doesn't matter what anybody says, they're not thinking about it.
Let me explain, for every single kill, there is a death, which gives a global 1.0 kdr. After that factor in suicides, that leads to a slightly negative kdr globally.
So if you have a 1.0 kdr, you're above average statistically speaking, don't let anyone tell you different.
Also, people that want to bring your kd into an argument that has nothing to do with anything are grasping at straws because they can't make a legitimate argument against something you say.
Edit: There are people saying that this is to simple, that the mean average needs to be looked at. Basically if you take every players individual kdr, and then average all of them, I would be interested in knowing that number of bungie would like to do the work to get it, but I would still think this would work out to be slightly less than 1, if someone can explain how that may not be true I would like to know
Edit: Adding this quote from Sixclicks, if this is accurate then it's still very close to 1
To add to my other reply and answer your question in your edit, the average KDR is actually 1.049424.
You can get this number from Guardian.gg by looking at the average KDR of each subclass and the subclass distribution percentages.
So these are the numbers:
Sunbreaker: 1.06 kdr, 18.63%
Stormcaller: 1.04 kdr, 8.76%
Gunslinger: 1.09 kdr, 13.98%
Defender: 1.01 kdr, 2.14%
Striker: 1.03 kdr, 8.6%
Bladedancer: 1.11 kdr, 11.37%
Sunsinger: 1.01 kdr, 12.98%
Voidwalker: 1.05 kdr, 8.27%
Nightstalker: 1.01 kdr, 15.26%
So what you do is simply weight each kdr by subclass distribution percentage and then add it up. So you get:
(1.06 x .1863) + (1.04 x .0876) + (1.09 x .1398) + (1.01 x .0214) + (1.03 x .086) + (1.11 x .1137) + (1.01 x .1298) + (1.05 x .0827) + (1.01 x .1526) = 1.049423
Edit: it has been explained to me that what I'm looking at is a global kill per death ratio, as opposed to a kill death ratio per player, which in fact may be above one if you were to take each individual players actual kdr, and average them in that manner you would wind up with a completely different number. I can see how that would work, and I would be very interested in seeing the actual average kdr per player, on a global scale. However I still say anything that is positive is good, you help your team in terms of killing more than you die on a consistent basis.

The only thing I'm decent at is average score per game which I'm like the top 4% other wise I'm below average

Ya so fix ppl 19-30 getn first place

I have a ~1.30 K/D. I don't use my Titan often (really not at all) and he brings it down a little bit. Anyway, onto my story; I got into a match with an AFKer in Skirmish or Salvage on Exodus Blue. Now, at the beginning, I was like "Maybe he's getting something to eat or drink." because he was in a party with our teammate. At one point, he start to spin. I think he was just attempting to not get booted. Naturally, after a couple of minutes of him not helping and me playing poorly (which I admit to. I was playing really poorly), I got really mad. I messaged him and said "Could you please f--king play?". He messaged me back after saying that I shouldn't play poorly and call somebody out. Whatever, that was fine. However, after I said he was a bad teammate, he attacked my overall K/D by saying "I just looked at your stats, and I'M a bad teammate?" I knew my stats were just slightly above average so I took the hit. After a few minutes I looked up his stats. He had a 1.33 K/D and a very similar win percentage. When did people with stats similar to mine get so cocky? I didn't think we had that right. Haha.

Edited by GrEaSYmUFFiN325: 1/13/2016 4:50:27 AMOver 1.0 does not mean you're above average. You'd have to collect every players kdr stats to find the average. Over 1.0 just means you're efficient. I'm sure destiny's average is closer to 1.2, maybe to 1.4 Edit-I'm sure my average is under 1.0

Edited by Whoppenheimer: 1/13/2016 4:16:53 AMI'm going to use Thorn and Party Crasher from now on in crucible :D. Sweatys everyday now!

I'd say 1-1.3 ish is average below that is poor above that is good. Not statistically but for people who play crucible consistently
-
Your ELO score is the only thing that matters.
-
Statistically wise you are right. In this game though it seems those with a higher kd not only have that high kd, but they play a lot more as well. This means that there is a smaller group of above average players that impact the average kd. If you were to see what the average kd of a player is, it would probably be around a .9 or maybe even lower. Basically the group with a higher kd makes up the majority of the kills so the average player will actually have a lower kd than what you would think statistically they would have
-
I'm above average also 1.1 kd over 160k kills lol

Edited by KayOsS882: 1/13/2016 3:26:43 AMWhat suicide drops your k/d?? I've been dicking around and jumping over ledges and stuff.
-
1 kill 4 deaths, 4 kills 1 death. Definitely not a 1.0 kd
-
Yay logic and real math! Poor kids.

Can't tell me how to live my life.

I must be pretty good then.
-
can anyone tell me my kd?

Edited by XiX_GhOsTx_XiX: 1/13/2016 4:10:09 AMPersonally I think that K+A/D is a much better stat to look at. There are a ton of janitors floating around Crucible and a lot of the time someone else finishes off a kill that you would have definitely gotten. There's a lot of people around here who spend too much time stroking their K/D's and belittling others for having a K/D that's lower than theirs, just ignore them.
-
LOL I JUST ABOVE 1.0 I THINK
-
What if I bounce between 1.88-1.92
-
I feel like trials KDR is your real KD
-
No, if you have a SOLID 1.0, you're average. Stop being the mom who promotes everyone getting a "Participation" award. Nothings wrong with being average, but don't call something great that's clearly not.
-
Actually average is a bit below 1.0 due to environmental deaths
-
Edited by Golden: 1/13/2016 3:20:06 AMKdr is kill death ratio right? If it is your definitly correct. I have a 1.4 kd. i feel happy with that
-
Edited by Kwrky: 1/13/2016 1:24:22 AMActually we can't know what it is for a bunch of reasons. A better way to look at it is to think of some people as KD generators (they die a lot) and KD consumers (they kill a lot). A lot of KD generators aka scrubs don't play anymore, removing them from the population and pushing avg KD up. They still exist in stats from the start of Destiny but have no relevance to modern crucible. We're probably talking millions of people here btw so the effect is large. Another reason is that mean and median are not the same but i don't expect you to understand that.
-
I wish...based on my current performance trajectory I'll be playing Destiny 7 before I hit a 1.0 KD
-
i had all postivebon my real account. my highest was like 1.8 on skirmish
