You're above average, it doesn't matter what anybody says, they're not thinking about it.
Let me explain, for every single kill, there is a death, which gives a global 1.0 kdr. After that factor in suicides, that leads to a slightly negative kdr globally.
So if you have a 1.0 kdr, you're above average statistically speaking, don't let anyone tell you different.
Also, people that want to bring your kd into an argument that has nothing to do with anything are grasping at straws because they can't make a legitimate argument against something you say.
Edit: There are people saying that this is to simple, that the mean average needs to be looked at. Basically if you take every players individual kdr, and then average all of them, I would be interested in knowing that number of bungie would like to do the work to get it, but I would still think this would work out to be slightly less than 1, if someone can explain how that may not be true I would like to know
Edit: Adding this quote from Sixclicks, if this is accurate then it's still very close to 1
To add to my other reply and answer your question in your edit, the average KDR is actually 1.049424.
You can get this number from Guardian.gg by looking at the average KDR of each subclass and the subclass distribution percentages.
So these are the numbers:
Sunbreaker: 1.06 kdr, 18.63%
Stormcaller: 1.04 kdr, 8.76%
Gunslinger: 1.09 kdr, 13.98%
Defender: 1.01 kdr, 2.14%
Striker: 1.03 kdr, 8.6%
Bladedancer: 1.11 kdr, 11.37%
Sunsinger: 1.01 kdr, 12.98%
Voidwalker: 1.05 kdr, 8.27%
Nightstalker: 1.01 kdr, 15.26%
So what you do is simply weight each kdr by subclass distribution percentage and then add it up. So you get:
(1.06 x .1863) + (1.04 x .0876) + (1.09 x .1398) + (1.01 x .0214) + (1.03 x .086) + (1.11 x .1137) + (1.01 x .1298) + (1.05 x .0827) + (1.01 x .1526) = 1.049423
Edit: it has been explained to me that what I'm looking at is a global kill per death ratio, as opposed to a kill death ratio per player, which in fact may be above one if you were to take each individual players actual kdr, and average them in that manner you would wind up with a completely different number. I can see how that would work, and I would be very interested in seeing the actual average kdr per player, on a global scale. However I still say anything that is positive is good, you help your team in terms of killing more than you die on a consistent basis.

If you have dedicated servers you are above Bungie
-
I disagree. I believe a 2.0 is above average, while a 1.0 and lower is considered below average. A 1.3 to a 1.7ish should then be considered average, unless I'm seriously underestimating the amount of the playerbase which actually possesses a 1.0 or lower k/d. If that's the case, then people need to stop dying so frequently and get some more kills.

It all really depends on how you choose to perceive it and what the argument is at a given time. In the terms of global kd, yes, it is below 1 for the reasons you stated. In terms of overall skill (if you want to call it that) and where you rank, you average the ratios to find a mean. An example shows: 1. 22 and 10 = 2.2 2. 18 and 12 = 1.5 3. 14 and 10 = 1.4 4. 11 and 11 = 1.0 5. 8 and 14 = 0.57 6. 1 and 17 = 0.6 Total 64 and 64 = global kdr of 1 Average kdr would be 6.73 ÷ 6 = 1.12 So if you have a kdr above 1.12 you are better than your peers in terms of skill.

What about suicides?

But...but a 0.9 kdr means I'm trying....right?...

Edited by Must Have Gally: 1/14/2016 12:35:14 PMThink about it Rumble match. Player 1: 25 kills, 1 death. 25.0 kd Player 2: 15 kills: 3 deaths: 5.0 kd Player 3: 10 kills: 8 deaths: 1.25 kd Player 4: 5 kills: 10 deaths: 0.5 kd Player 5: 2 kills: 36 deaths: 0.05 kd Player 6: 0 kills: 7 deaths: 0 kd Average kd: 5.3

Alot of the so called best players have a high kd because they play wiv other so called best players.... obviously they gunna have high kds.... rite????
-
Well said people should look at gameplay for skill not kd #Ruben919
-
Hey thanks, normally I think of myself as average. Reading this made me feel happy cause my kds are 1 on all 3 characters. Either way, I know I'll never be one of those pros that carries to flawless, and regardless of all that, its interesting what you say about global kd being below 1. It's true. Can't believe I never thought of that

People with a 1.8 amd higher kd spend more time camping the back of the map getting 2 or 3 kills amd no deaths than they do playing. They also leave matches if they die to many times so that it doesn't record their stats in the data base. This is something g learned from the xbox community years ago and adopted by the ps sweats. I can safely 100% say that everyone of the people I've played with that have a 2.0 or higher always consistently only place 4th or worse in the match when playing on my fireteam. Once they do shitty to many times in a row they leave my team and go play alone to make up for all those deaths they got by doing what I stated above. This is fact and know widely by the real players of fps games.

2.0 here
-
Could in theory be higher than 1.0 This is because if people reset characters it wipes those stats. So a person who had for example a .50 k/d reset that character, then the people who killed that person would then instantly have kills that are no longer recognize the deaths in the system. This is of course looking at global stats using sites like Destinytracker

AWWW ... isn't it cute , I have a .72 or something just to own all the garbage players out there that think im bad at the game ... its fun that way
-
Well I have mostly pos KDs but my trials KDs are terrible and I rek... Well i feel as I do. Is there a way to reset KDs lol?
-
My buddy plays destiny on xbox one and ps4, he has played 20 days on xbox and 27 days on ps4. He has a 1.8 on xbox and a 2.9 on plebstation. Just shows how casual ps4 is and how xbone is master race!
don't take it seriously.
Hooray
-
So what does that make me?
-
When I play crucible I just like to derp around. So in my opinion my kdr stinks. :D
-
I love the people that claim everyone in a game should have a positive K/D... mathematical idiots.

Edited by ILyncher: 1/13/2016 11:09:45 PMIf you have a 1 kd I would consider that below average but hey it's only a game.
-
1.22 for me. Yay.
-
So I have a k/d of 1.6 something (it has gone down from 1.75 over the holidays and according to Destiny Tracker that puts me in the top 3% of players. So I would say that a positive k/d must be above average.
-
I have a 1.0 I gud
-
My overall Kdr on my hunter is like 1.53 I think and that's just because I didn't know what I was doing I'm vanilla destiny.. Now I stay around 1.78-1.94 from week to week.. I first started trials with a 1.08 Kdr now it's 1.35.. Kd doesn't matter really.. I beat ninja with no L 2 weeks ago with Zamtv.. Ninja had a 3.4 trials Kd and Zamtv had a 2.4 and the other guy had 1.9.. Kd doesn't matter
