You're above average, it doesn't matter what anybody says, they're not thinking about it.
Let me explain, for every single kill, there is a death, which gives a global 1.0 kdr. After that factor in suicides, that leads to a slightly negative kdr globally.
So if you have a 1.0 kdr, you're above average statistically speaking, don't let anyone tell you different.
Also, people that want to bring your kd into an argument that has nothing to do with anything are grasping at straws because they can't make a legitimate argument against something you say.
Edit: There are people saying that this is to simple, that the mean average needs to be looked at. Basically if you take every players individual kdr, and then average all of them, I would be interested in knowing that number of bungie would like to do the work to get it, but I would still think this would work out to be slightly less than 1, if someone can explain how that may not be true I would like to know
Edit: Adding this quote from Sixclicks, if this is accurate then it's still very close to 1
To add to my other reply and answer your question in your edit, the average KDR is actually 1.049424.
You can get this number from Guardian.gg by looking at the average KDR of each subclass and the subclass distribution percentages.
So these are the numbers:
Sunbreaker: 1.06 kdr, 18.63%
Stormcaller: 1.04 kdr, 8.76%
Gunslinger: 1.09 kdr, 13.98%
Defender: 1.01 kdr, 2.14%
Striker: 1.03 kdr, 8.6%
Bladedancer: 1.11 kdr, 11.37%
Sunsinger: 1.01 kdr, 12.98%
Voidwalker: 1.05 kdr, 8.27%
Nightstalker: 1.01 kdr, 15.26%
So what you do is simply weight each kdr by subclass distribution percentage and then add it up. So you get:
(1.06 x .1863) + (1.04 x .0876) + (1.09 x .1398) + (1.01 x .0214) + (1.03 x .086) + (1.11 x .1137) + (1.01 x .1298) + (1.05 x .0827) + (1.01 x .1526) = 1.049423
Edit: it has been explained to me that what I'm looking at is a global kill per death ratio, as opposed to a kill death ratio per player, which in fact may be above one if you were to take each individual players actual kdr, and average them in that manner you would wind up with a completely different number. I can see how that would work, and I would be very interested in seeing the actual average kdr per player, on a global scale. However I still say anything that is positive is good, you help your team in terms of killing more than you die on a consistent basis.

How do you check your overall KD in PVP? Don't know mine?
-
Is it just me or is trials easier than normal crucible? Bit more game sense involved with less players I guess...

《《《Hello,da name's Beefystarling, I'm an admin of a fairly large clan called The Immortal Guardians. I decided to make a sister-clan from iMGS (immortal guardians) called DeadRingers. It's goin to be a clan for diehard destiny players and admins....meaning you must be an admin from an existing clan or/and still very active and helpful in the game we all love called Destiny! Requirements are pretty simple....1.be an active admin or diehard destiny player from a previous clan 2.must play at least 1-2 hours a day....that's it! And of course be respectful to others and have fun,but dat go's without sayin. So if anyone out there can fill these easy ass requirements and wanna be a part of a small, smart and tactical team that loves to socialize and talk a Lil friendly smack.....sign up to be a DeadRinger!!! Ps4 only, sorry xbox oners. Friend beefystarling on psn.

I started day 1 destiny in the crucible and never played a FPS in my life. My KD is forever scarred. I'm not a KD boosting Scrub who re makes characters to boost it. Unfortunately most are.

I'm sitting at 1.17 currently for trials. I went from 1.13 to 1.17 just going flawless last weekend. I'm not a god but I'm pretty good and I'm just not aggressive. I've played with two aggressive teammates and they'll get like six or more kills and I'll get a couple of assists and maybe three kills total but have one death or no deaths. I sit back and kill people from a distance, it's just my play style and always has been.
-
This is probly my lowest k/d in a while on games. Mine usually average 2.65-3.6. I sit at 1.33 on this game
-
Mine ranges from 1.12-1.42 on all my characters
-
I have a 1.17 in trials. Which is good for me, considering I've never really had positive K/D's in PvP areas of games. My playstyle isn't normal. Or wasn't in year one, now it's changed, and gets changed it seems every round of trials. Other modes? I spend hiding on perches to see how many people walk past me.
-
k.d, 0.92. trials k.d 0.98-0.99. 8-10 times in a 1v1 in trials i win. I just goof around to much to have a good k.d. trials.... lets just say in year 1 i had trouble getting 5 wins, even with losses

Edited by AlmightyJosh85: 1/13/2016 2:14:38 PMObjective > KDR My Kd on here is trash but i dont play much destiny pvp. Im more into the Battlefield/COD muliplayers Destiny: Prolly less than 1lol BO3 KDR: 1.8 Battlefront: 2.6
-
KD is irrelevant. Objective IS relevant. I have lost to so many people with really shit KD averages because they actually go for the objective.
-
I gravitate between 1.7 and 1.8 mostly (On Hunter before you check my warlock or titan)
-
Nice I'm average
-
I just play for fun
-
Edited by NYDIBS: 1/13/2016 1:57:49 PMmy 1.1 k/d puts me in like the top 30% on destinytracker.com, so yeah, that's above average
-
What kd do I have? I know I have an above average in control but what about overall?
-
Uhhh.. No, OP. A 1.0 will always be average, not above average. I hope you're still in high school because you need to learn to math.
-
awww im a somebody! thanks bud!
-
Tell that to the guy I was match-made with against my 3-man team in elimination. It was 3v1. Poor guy. My team let him kill us twice, just so it wasn't that bad. We just sat down in front of him, and waited for his super to charge.
-
1.0 is average don't flatter yourselves scrubs
-
Depends how many characters you have deleted to get it back up really. If you have had 3 characters from the start (like I have) and not created any new ones your k/d will reflect your entire ownership of the game.
-
I'm currently at .89 K/D as a Defender. From what Bungie says, I'm right where they expect me to be, playing a support roll.
-
Only character below is my titan because I just dick around with him
-
All this simple arithmetic mean stuff is pretty useless when trying to actually make sense of this type of data. You need to see distribution not arithmetic mean.

Missing #satire tag or someone doesn't know how averages work. Imagine a world with 3 players. P1 has 10 kills and 1 death, KDR is 10 P2 has 10 kills and 1 death, KDR is 10 P3 has 0 kills and 18 deaths, KDR is 0 There are 20 kills and 20 deaths. The average KDR is 6.67. Very good players can have KDR much higher than 1 to skew the average higher. The worst possible KD is 0. The median (50th percentile) KDR is around 1.1. The average will be slightly higher than that.
-
Actually, a kd of 1.0 could be considered below average, since there are ways to accidentally die, giving no kill to the other player, but there is no way to kill that wouldn't count. That, and there is no upper bound for kd, so chances are the average lands a little higher than 1.0.
