So I tried the Totems cheese today...
Tried getting in a full raid before work. I had about two and a half hours, and joined a fireteam that was all 317+. Everyone in the group had a working mic, sounded adult, and acted mature. As we started the raid, there was no talk of who's doing this or are we using that strategy. Always a good sign.
We get to totems with minimum effort and zero setbacks. As we get to the totems, it happens. The fireteam leader asks if we know the totems cheese. Everyone says yes, and agrees its faster and easier. I stay silent, unsure of how to react. I've heard of the cheese before, and know how to do it in concept. Before today, I had the same opinion of this cheese as I did the no-knight strat; if it gets the job done, and without too much hassle, I don't care.
However, after a full hour on totems we had no success. Most of the fireteam at this point agreed we should just do the normal strategy, but the fireteam leader was adamant. He claimed if we did the normal strat, we would wipe more and take longer. Considering he was the one that died EVERY TIME, I had enough. For the first time in months, I rage quit a raid. Never again will I suffer through the totems cheese. If you insist on it, I'm just going to grab the cp and leave. The warpriest will NOT deem you worthy.
Tl;Dr Kings Fall totems cheese is for noobs who can't do the easiest reward stage of the raid.

Edited by Roman: 1/14/2016 9:10:24 AMsame shit my friends invited me to Hard Raid and wanted to cheese totems, without explaining how to do it then they explained how to do it, and it still didn't help anything, closest we got was 80% finally I asked why don't we just do it the "normal" way and they said it was easier this way I told them - you realize we already sat for 1 full hour just at totems trying your "strat", while we would have been at Golgoroth already had we done it the normal way they said if we tried normal way we'd wipe even more ... half of them were 310+ and 4 of us were right about 310 I just left and said if I can't even get people on my friends list to play legit anymore, I can't get j to a regular Raid group - and obviously cheering is becoming so popular again - then I have no interest in this Raid/game anymore Bungie is giving away high light items - weapons and gear - you just have to participate in activity and get carried everywhere - be it Raid or end game PvP - you no longer "earn" anything - everything is just a "participation trophy" Bungie ignores community and suggestions/questions/complaints eventually they will fix stuff and all you people are going to be so happy, when shit that's been happening in this game for last 3 weeks should have NEVER happened in a Tripple A title from a developer like Bungie and Activision, not for as long as it's been going on I've defended this game through everything hanging on to a sliver of hope, just can't do it anymore, I've leveled and re-leveled and grinded and solo'd and have over 3500 hours played, and this is it -blam!- that I have no interest in developer and a product that remotes this kind of activity

I mean the adds don't even attack you in the middle they try and run to the totems. I got into a fresh raid with all 315+ one time and like you we had no problems up until totems, once we got to totems the leader started explaining what sounded like how to do normal totems. I turned the volume down so i wouldn't have to listen to it and watched a Youtube video until they were ready. Once the leader finished explaining they were like "Does everyone get what they're doing" I immediately roll my eyes thinking everyone has atleast 1 piece of hard raid gear chances are they've done totems. She goes down the list of names requiring everyone to confirm that they understand what she said. When she gets to me I go "As a 319 i would hope i know how to do totems". So we start and I run to the plate and immediately a squeaker in the party starts screeching that i went to the plate and we have to wipe. Everyone wipes and the leader's like "As a 319 I thought you knew the cheese" and I said "Why the -blam!- are we cheesing one of the easiest parts of the raid?". Made me look like an asshole for a snarky comment.

We donit first time everytime, no matter what strat, y would i spend 10-15 mins on the boring ass totems when we can do it in 5, u only need 2 good plate guys and the rest can mess up as much as they like really, just a poor team

If they failed doing the cheese. You weren't going to get thru it anyways bud. I've done the HM raid on Totems with 4 people doing the cheese. Get better.

Its not that difficult cheese or no cheese. I only cheesed it twice because one group tried to get unlimited orbs for warpriest and the one today I cheese because we had a level 297 on hard. We helped him through totems and warpriest but no further.

2 RepliesI'm happy to do either. Glitch: The key is the people who do the sword glitch need to be able to run solo - some people just can't. And the people in the middle need to let the people downstairs know if any enemy made it past them. Normal: everyone needs to wait and make sure the aura passes before they leave - usually spent killing the knight. And kill the wizard before you leave the middle. Either way works for me, but both still depend on everyone doing their part. If the guy was dying using the glitch, he would probably die more without it. The biggest advantage to the glitch is you can run the middle with 3 if someone dies up there.

Only tried the cheese twice via lfg. but in both cases it took so long I convinced them to try the usual method. And ironically it got done almost immediately. I still don't get why anyone still wants to do the totems cheese method.

I like doing the totems cheese for the sake of variety. It's not really easier or harder than the regular strategy, just refreshing.

Go try and do the normal method if you have 5 people or 4 . It makes those runs hell of a lot easier.

8 RepliesThe no Knights strategy is irritating to do with players who think they know what they're doing but really don't. The players who are in charge of making sure the ogres are weak but not dead don't clear adds. If you're one of the unlucky ones who has to detonate a bomb, you're mobbed by the adds and finished off by the knight who spawns as soon as the ogre is killed. If you manage to kill the adds and the knight as you're detonating the bomb, the ogres have a tendency to move to the furthest from the center so you have a long distance to travel back to dps Oryx. Whenever I'm in a team and someone says, "I was on a team that did this last week and we did great," it's because the rest of the players on that team knew how to handle the "no Knights" strategy properly. The sad thing is- the players who didn't get enough support and have to run into the death trap surrounding the bombs are almost always blamed when it fails.

1 ReplyThe last 3 weeks on lfg Ive been really unlucky. Teams that average 317 light are struggling on totems regularly. Im not sure what is happening- any ideas? Too soon for Christmas noobs to be 317 so I don't know. Its really been a struggle lately to find a good team.

Never tried the cheese method. Although yesterday my team didn't have a 6th so we did everything up until oryx with 5. It was actually alot of fun, i suggest giving it a try.

The cheese is not much of a cheese the only ones really at risk is the person standing left and right. It's in no way faster due to the lack of guardians powering up the thingy ma bob but some would consider it safer. In my opinion I would categorize it as a cheese more than an alternative strategy much like the 8 orb oryx strategy that's gaining popularity.

The cheese is a little bit easier and a little faster but honestly so is doing it the normal way.

People usually cheese things that are hard, totems isn't hard so no cheese. I think the other 5 members of your team were trash, I would have left within 1 or 2 wipes.
