So I tried the Totems cheese today...
Tried getting in a full raid before work. I had about two and a half hours, and joined a fireteam that was all 317+. Everyone in the group had a working mic, sounded adult, and acted mature. As we started the raid, there was no talk of who's doing this or are we using that strategy. Always a good sign.
We get to totems with minimum effort and zero setbacks. As we get to the totems, it happens. The fireteam leader asks if we know the totems cheese. Everyone says yes, and agrees its faster and easier. I stay silent, unsure of how to react. I've heard of the cheese before, and know how to do it in concept. Before today, I had the same opinion of this cheese as I did the no-knight strat; if it gets the job done, and without too much hassle, I don't care.
However, after a full hour on totems we had no success. Most of the fireteam at this point agreed we should just do the normal strategy, but the fireteam leader was adamant. He claimed if we did the normal strat, we would wipe more and take longer. Considering he was the one that died EVERY TIME, I had enough. For the first time in months, I rage quit a raid. Never again will I suffer through the totems cheese. If you insist on it, I'm just going to grab the cp and leave. The warpriest will NOT deem you worthy.
Tl;Dr Kings Fall totems cheese is for noobs who can't do the easiest reward stage of the raid.

I did it last week for the first time and like you, didn't know it even existed. Didn't really see the benefit of it to be honest. It's so easy without having to do that

I never even knew the cheese, but various lfg's have taught me a very simple observation. The groups that struggle are the groups adamant about swapping the moment the aura falls off. All this does is allow the middle to be over run needlessly. That or they don't even try to kill the wizard. But it's so pointless it's sad...

I just state that if the group has to cheese totems I doubt their ability to complete the raid. They generally want to prove me wrong.

Tryed it reluctantly, told him it was very easy to do the regular way and that I was concerned for the ability of the group to do the rest of the raid. Everyone insisted. When we finally finished totems, I just had to stop and explain that if they get used to the cheese, they wouldn't be able to do it if it was patched. Explained what happened with Aetheon and the "grenade/push him off cheese" and how it was almost impossible to find a group to complete Hard VoG once Bungie patched it. Same with Crota and the "pull the Ethernet plug cheese." Akso, many groups didn't know how to build the bridge. I know sometimes everybody doesn't have TIME to raid every week, especially on all 3 toons, but we are losing the KNOWLEDGE and CAPABILITY to complete raids without the cheese! p.s. Cheesing the totems doesn't save time. It only helps if you have lower levels you're carrying who are incapable of sniping knights and clearing everything else rushing at you. You can keep them in the middle backed up by 3 others, while your more experienced players can go to totems and take out the knights.

While I can obviously do both ways I prefer the cheese way because I'm having hard time when my team dies near the dam end of the totems and then we need to do the same process all over again that takes quite a while... I find it more challenging being alone on the totems and deal with acolytes/boomers and any other kind of enemies my team let slip by them (those major Knights though lol) if the 2 players that stick on totems knows how to crowd control alone the other 4 players won't have a problem dealing with the adds on center (let's be honest 4 guardians at center are better then 2...)

The problem with the raid is that there is so many people who can't do it and with people quitting everyday and groups who can do it sticking together it's getting harder and harder to get through the raid with competent players, I've not completed hard mode in ages now so I just don't bother with it anymore

Cheese is OK but seems likely takes forever, especially if your alone on a totem just shooting sh*t, I prefer the normal way, first time every time, and feels quicker in my opinion!

He would stay in the middle wayyy too long at totems, even as we are yelling SWITCH!, got killed by the Oculus at Warpriest, shot Golgoroth from outside the puddle, and went to the wrong platform more times than I could count at Oryx.. He was a friend of the fireteam leader so he didn't get the boot because we still managed to clear everything in 1-2 attempts, despite his inability to do seemingly anything helpful. He brushed off instructions at every turn, proclaiming "I know, I know"... I wanted to reach through the tv and slap him. If I were the fireteam lead I would have kicked him after the final detonation at Oryx. You contribute nothing, you get nothing.
