It's not a cheese and it's actually more difficult than the normal way.

How is it more difficult? I've done it in both the platform and totem. 4 people killing ads make it a breeze. Defender on the totems killing 1 boomer and some acolytes? Lol man that's a tough job!!! But it takes the same amount of time either way.
