Only reason to do it is if you don't have a six man fire team. I would rather find out who is dead weight there than later on in the raid.

You can two man each side. Leave the totem at 6 seconds and have the person from the centre meet in the water. Not hard. I don't understand why people wipe if one person dies.

Exactly! I used to have three regular groups that I raided with, but they've all slowly disappeared. Now that I only LFG with PUGs, totems is a great place to determine how far a group is going to get in the raid.
