Gotta agree. HoW was a total rip-off and EL was their way to artificially add "content" with the minimum necessary effort to make up for how little substance there actually was. I'm completely baffled at the change in perspective in just a few months, from "HoW was a pathetic cash grab of cut content" to "HoW was the best thing ever".
Ignore nostalgia for a second, if you can, and just look at cost, for starters. TTK cost 2x as much (for me) as HoW but has, at minimum, 4-5x the content. HoW's story was easily finished in a day. It had one strike, which was by a sizeable margin the shortest one in the game. PoE instead of a raid. The new weapons, with a handful of exceptions, were terrible. Everyone used old weapons because of the cheap mechanic of EL. (Speaking of old weapons, vanilla's "story", if you can even call it that, made absolutely no sense... everyone raved about the TTK narrative but has suddenly totally forgotten that too)
Crucible? It's been horribly bugged for one week. Calm down. Snipers may be too dominant but primary weapons are very well balanced with a ton of variety. HoW? Thorns, final round snipers, and blinking shottys with absurd OHK range as far as the eye can see. Name one primary weapon that was widely used that wasn't a HC (Messenger and Red Death at the end don't count because everyone was just preparing for the correctly predicted new PR meta).
(Edit: The OP is not just about HoW but it's the most direct comparison being drawn. Comparing Vanilla and TTK is pointless and unfair to a large extent because it was a brand new experience)
