Who's Rey?
Who's Snoke?
How do magnets work?
Welcome to my post fellow Star Wars Nerds. The following is my theory developed after seeing the movie a handful of times without any influence from other fan theories.
First and foremost, if you haven't seen the movie yet please stop here. If you cannot get to the cinemas send me a PM and I'll hook you up with a place to watch online.
Second my story, born in 1989 I'm a 90s kid. Had a brother 13 years older than me who walked into his reception to the Imperial March. When Lucasfilms rereleases the original trilogy in theatres my dad and bro took me to every one. Then i saw every one of the prequel trilogy. From the moment I saw RotJ i was hooked. For years I lived and breathed star wars. Spent hundreds of hours playing games and reading books and comics. Then The kicker, everything I had immersed myself in wasn't canon!! I felt betrayed, duped. Tens of thousands of pages and hundreds of gaming hours spent on content that didn't exist in Lucas' world. That is when i began to hate the EU. The sequel trilogy was my justification. Now all that ridiculous content is gone forever and I couldnt be happier. We're back down to only five lightsaber colors. Sorry Revan fans.
Anyway sorry for rambling here it comes. First let us look at Ben Solo and his parents. There was thirty years between the original
Three and this new trilogy. Leia and Han were hot and heavy at the end of RotJ so it is easy to assume they got pregnant rather quickly. So Kylo's age is around 27-29. He spent too long with mommy near politicians. It is stated that Snoke got into his mind then so Snoke wouldve had to be a political figure prominent in the new republic in its early years. Leia sent him to Luke too late. Just as Anakin was trained too old so was Ben. Snoke already had him.
Luke on the other hand didn't rush into a relationship. His goal was to rebuild the Jedi, buy he found someone. Perhaps someone like Mara Jade but never seduced by the dark side like she was. This wife he took wouldve been his crutch. She would be someone who could help him rebuild the Jedi. And several years in they had a child aka Rey Skywalker. (And he wouldve taken a wife, this is the new jedi order not the prudish one of the old republic). I'm thinking she was either from Naboo or Mandelore due to Rey's english accent. Accent? What the hell does that matter? Well for the clone wars Lucas specifically requested the Twi'lek homeworld have French accents. So it IS indeed planet based. Plus that ship they drop Rey off in seems nubian or mandelorian imo.
When Rey is 4 or 5 she is dropped off on Jakku just about the time Ben is going through his teen angst period. This wouldve immediatly followed the assault on Luke's temple and the death of his dream. But why would Luke abandon Rey? Because in the Attack he lost his wife. She protected Rey from her cousin. Luke would be distraught. Nothing else could trully make him go to exile. Otherwise he wouldve fought Snoke and Kylo and won in three years max. Luke's wife died by Snoke's hand. Luke severally damaged snoke during this conflict and fled with his daughter and the body of his wife. This is why at the end of the movie Rey finds him in front of a gravestone(yes that is a gravestone). So that's where Rey fits and why Luke is in exile.
Next, Snoke. The internet is alive with theories, but they all have so many holes. Is he Palpatine? Doubtful, thatd follow that horrible legends plot. Plaguies? No way if he was a Muun half his brain would be missing. The evil half of Vader's force ghost? Nah thatd be silly. Darth Bane? No that would create too many issues. No no Lucas said this story was about the grandchildren. Ok so i started thinking. Tarkin's son? No because Snoke is stated as humanoid not human. Asajj's Son? No palpatine clearly cut ties with the force sensitives of Dothomir. So who the hell is Snoke???
Here it comes.
He's new to us but not to them. Palpatine always had a backup plan. He wanted Luke but he saw during Empire Strikes Back that Vader was weak when it came to his child. He was a political genius he would see the possibility that these two skywalkers would be his undoing. He trained Dooku before Maul was even thought to fail. He seduced Anakin before Dooku was even thought to be dead. And he trained Snoke in case Vader betrayed him. By the end of RotJ Snoke is a fully trained Sith. Palaptine's fourth apprentice. Ready to pick up the pieces. But who was he?
Snoke is clearly a skilled politician. Unlike generals who gathered imperial forces to them and consequently got crushed he retained his power. How did he convince the other politicians to let him exist? To allow him to hold together the remnants of the empire? He was a Moff or Governor of a sector of the Empire that was improved during the Empire's rule. He made the quality of living go up. Trade increase etc. He was a hero in his system. And so he was forgiven. Perhaps at one point he was an inquisitor but i believe that program was scrapped long before he came into the picture. He layed low until he could move against Luke. With Kylo's help he achieved this and then to avoid the wrath of the new republic he retreated to the unknown regions with his forces. Starkiller base was never supposed to succeed. That was Palpatine's final pet.
Finally, magnets work by space magic.
Most sane theory I've heard for Snoke so far. I heard that in an interview with the guy that did the voice for Snoke, they addressed that, and he said that "Snoke is just Snoke." So he's obviously a new character. They've definitely got some good stuff in store for him
