Elitism a problem in destiny...
Recently i was called an elitist when doing a raid with an lfg team. When forming the team we had 5 318+ guardians and one of them suggested his lowly 309 friend to fill the last spot. Myself and another teammate showed our displeasure in having a low light character join us as we know for a fact that people who are 318+ are skilled and people below 310 are not.
Against our better judgement we let this player in. After 5 attempts on warpriest with the same 309 dying we finally passed it any moved on to golgoroth. There this player died alot. And then when i asked why are you dying all the time to him and that maybe you should raise your level to 315+ before doing a hard raid he snapped back at me you are an elitist.
I dont know why he called me an elitist. Maybe it was because i was staying alive and he was dying alot. Then he said that those requirements arent needed to beat hard mode and that is elitism because i have a higher light than him.
I am not an elitist but i do believe that one player is better than another based entirely on his gear. Its not my fault that he isnt skilled enoughto get to 315+.

Edit: we were wiping after the guy in the video missed grabbing the gaze causing most of the team to get wrecked.

2 RepliesI do have to say this. You told him to be 315 before doing the hard mode raid. You do know that normal mode will only bring you to 310 max right? My first hard mode clear, and mostly alot of others here too, were around 306-309 when hard mode came out. And we still completed it. Yes challenge mode is a bit harder and you kinda want to be 310 for it, but the guy was 309. Thats good enough. You could have looked into why he would keep dying. Teach him the ways. If its just 1, it isnt a problem that should hold you back. I had a simple rule when hard mode came out to get teams together. All the way up to daughters, you dont need to be 310+. And even then a experienced raider can still do it at 310. Only time someone needs to be 315 is Oryx challenge mode. Look, i do understand it. I myself ask for 317+ groups these days. Not because light matters, but because experience matters. I know i have time on reset day so want to get my raids done. Rest of the week is always a gamble because of work. If i have the time, i will help friends out with the raid and i wont look at light levels. Does that make me an elitist? I dont know, also dont care.

Meh, it's pretty much in every MMO. Take ffxi for example. Had to put in applications just to get in a good endgame linkshell unless you were recruited. On a trial of course. You would have to list things like jobs, crafts, gear, experience. Man, if only I could use that for real life, I'd be set.

2 Replies1st time my team beat the hard raid all the members were minus 310. We didn't have single 310 all around 305 light. His light wasn't the problem and I agree it was probably a lack of knowledge. Did you try to coach him?

2 RepliesHard mode gets released. 300+ players were starting it 300+ players were beating warpriest and golgoroth How the hell do 5 players at 318+ not manage to to finish those battles without the other guy? I sherpered my guys through normal mode the first time they did it. Took us ages while they learnt what to do but not once did it I complain or ask them to raise their light. Be less of douche and help people

The elitist part was suggesting that his light was the issue I ran through kings fall hard at lvl 306 up to oryx not that hard, if he was screwing up it was probably skill based. That being said with 5 318 u shouldn't have had an issue 5 manning at least warpreist

4 RepliesI'll piggy back low light level players thru a raid all day. It makes them better. Makes you better. And helps them level their character up. Did you try switching his position? Having him hang back? Take an easier roll? Thoroughly explain what his job is and make sure he understood? All plays a big factor in a low levels ability to make sure you clear an area. The more helpful and friendly you are while giving positive feedback the easier its going to be for everyone. Hell. He might even learn a thing or two.
