You're also looking at a US price, but there would need to be server FARMS around the world in several strategic places. This requires planning. It requires rewriting game code to run on a dedicated server versus peer-to-peer. It requires PURCHASING (not renting rinky-dink machines, which is what you're looking at) the hardware. It involves so much more than what you might think. Let's break this down: [b]NOTE - the following is an [i]extremely[/i] low estimate[/b] 1) General planning: At least 75 man hours at an average salary of ~$30/hr * 20 or so employees. $45,000 2) Purchasing quality servers, internet service, etc: minimum of $400 per machine @ ~ 200 machines worldwide. $80,000 2) Development of dedicated server support: At least 75 man hours at an average salary of ~$30/hr * 15 or so employees. $33,750 4) Patch certification across all platforms: A few thousand per considering man hours. Let's say $10,000 total 5) Post-deployment support: minimum $8,000/year Minimum cost: $176,750. Remember that's COST, and doesn't take into account the amount of time it will take

1 ReplyJust because it's a dedicated server doesn't mean it's a good one, GoDaddy offers dedicated servers for websites and that's over 150$ a month, a good dedi for a game like destiny would be a lot more than that. Could Bungie afford dedicated servers? Of course they could but at the cost of the money they milk from us, so dedi's are out of the question at the moment lol hail the all mighty overlord activision and all that

8 RepliesLol.. the thing is even if they invested a few million into a good server base all it takes is that one guy who lives in Qatar that has a coat hanger duck taped onto a camel for an internet connection to screw the game up. Even dedicated servers require some degree of lag compensation and if you get guys on satellite or camelnet it's going to suck. If they just implemented regional matchmaking and a minimum ping requirement things would improve greatly. There should never be matches that have over 100 milliseconds of latency. The other option is you could buy a netDuma and set it so you do not connect with other players who have bad connections like that
