If they need 1000 of those that is $45000 and considering that Activision will make over $1bn per quarter period, I'm fairly certain they can afford to install and maintain servers. Also EA have them so what's stopping Activision investing into these I don't know. Activision are putting themselves at a genuine business disadvantage.

Lord no, the servers they use are well over 10G each. Shit our new email server was ~8G and it's a 1U model with 32Gb of ram and 2 processors. They ones they need dwarf this guy. Just think about this. Xbox live has ~300,000 servers in their network. Granted the actual physical number isn't that much because of virtualization. Still a shit ton of equipment.

Each one takes about 1/5 of a full rack to mount, and weigh as much as a vw. Jk but they are huge.
