To host bungies claimed 25 million players depending on the number of ip's the server can handle given that most dedicated servers cost anywhere from 80 to 120 I would assume bungie and Activision did an estimated cost assessment on the matter and to acquire them and actively run the entirety of destiny on all 4 systems they are running on for go in on 1.5 years I would guess probably would have caused problems budget wise Edit: $69.99-$245

  • most dedicated servers cost anywhere from 80 to 120? 80 to 120 what? I am just curious. I assume you are referring to using someone's server farm and 80 to 120 is per month per server.

  • On top Sony paying for exclusives. However factor in Activision allocates a large portion of the budget for marketing. Also they still have to pay all of bungies employee salaries, yes that means everyone. Factor on top for that the dedicated servers need to keep the game running 24/7 while supporting millions of people across 4 separate consoles with bungie constantly altering the game's paradigm. Lastly you have to factor in startup times for power outages and maintenance costs, on top of individual player's network errors and connecting all of these people in PvP games and PvE. It might have an estimated cost that Activision wasn't willing to put money towards
