You have a Federal background check, a 10 day waiting period (handguns only) and you need to have I.D and the age 18 for a rifle, shotgun/ammo and 21 for a handgun/ammo and they are not that cheap with a standard used Sig Saur 9mm handgun is $899.99 excluding tax and ammo costs and a standard used 12 gauge mossberg hunting shotgun is $379.87 (fairly used and just older) also excluding tax and ammo along with the different chokes... Don't forget if you do get both you will most likely want to keep them clean with a $175 gun cleaning kit and a $2,999.99 large 14 gun vault... The total price of those four objects alone are well into the +$3,000 price range... Not cheap Echo... Not cheap...

 • Never said it had to be cheap, I claimed that it has to be regulated. There is more to regulation than simply looking at legal purchases, as much more goes on behind the scenes. But I'm no expert, I spend most of my time thinking about religion. Politics don't suit me well.

 • Almost forgot that a registered felon cannot legally own any gun no questions asked... But add a little more regulation such as tighter background checks would work...

 • I think it should take more than even all that to even legally own a handgun. Guns are generally pointless and shouldn't be handled by civilians who don't use them unless they have extremely carefully done background checks. Maybe that's already the case. Who knoooows.

 • Alright scenario time you are alone in your house (no pets) and someone breaks in and is wielding a gun you don't have a gun... What do you do?

 • Call 911. Thankfully, they won't have a gun though. The hypothetical is appreciated, but missplaced. It's intended to keep out of the hands of people who will attempt to rob you with guns. To stop the black market in America (as best as we can, pertaining to guns), to stop shootings.
