Your post is only a first order approximation of the real situation.
You're ignoring the effects of the pyramid structure present in industry, and unequal opportunity that stems from that. Also ignoring the effects of unequal opportunity for various subgroups of the American people.
Wealth redistribution is very different from taxation for social programs.
As a fairly successful WASP, I cannot deny the effects of the 'opportunity' that I was given through factors out of my control. I also am of the opinion that a strong blue collar and service industry enhances STEM and global business productivity by allowing more capable young adults from diverse backgrounds to access innovative or productive industries. This brings up our national wealth and security, which is the real object of federal govt.
