If you equip the ghost perk that you find more stuff instead of mark item location chests are a good resource.

Good info to know! Chests don't (or at least didn't when I did mine) give up the Exotic sword mats though.

I'll try to confirm this, I'm material farming for solar and void now. I know I've received legendary engrams from chests with Ghost perk active.
