Im usually the only defender in my raid group. Any more than 1 is redundant unless you expect deaths at the bosses.

Two titans is extremely useful in every phase of the raid. If you're only using one, you're simply making things harder on your team.

We always run two to make things go faster. Melting point goes a long way during Golgoroth and our Titans go up top with weapons and blessing to melt ogres and light eaters. Not necessary like you said but woks well none the less.
