Hey guys, beta player here who's seen all the ups and downs of destiny with what I think would be a great idea to shake things up.
Enter Infusion Materials
A new consumable material that functions as infusion material for your gear. These materials would function as follows:
Common material: used to add +1 light to the selected piece of gear. These could be acquired for completing daily activities, public events, etc.
Rare material: used to add +2 light to the selected piece of gear. These could be acquired in the nightfall, trials bounties, rank 5 and 7 in ToO, iron banner packages, etc.
Legendary material: used to add +5 light to the selected piece of gear. These could be acquired through raid completions, POE 40 completion (brought to current level), ToO flawless victories, and maybe rank 5 iron banner package.
Adding these rewards to older activities will freshen up the experience while allowing people to get higher light. Instead of grinding solely for a 320 ghost when you have a 319 ghost, you could just grind for an infusion material and ascend your ghost to 320.
Limiting the higher scale rewards to endgame activities still requires players to complete the most difficult activities the game has to offer, but better rewards for the effort.
Bungie, many of us have been #forever319 for weeks or months. Make this change to allow us all a path to 320 rather than relying solely on RNG.

Have any ideas to improve this proposed system? Let us know in the comments!
Edit 1: lots of people are proposing this will eliminate the need to raid and do endgame, but with weekly limits per account or character, this will be a non-issue. Plus, it gives viability to alternative loadouts with gear and weapons.

No. Just no. Yet more materials. Yet more grind. And for what? One -blam!-ing light. Piss off. I already grinded twice for my yr 1 irrelevant weapons. I've got an idea. Why don't Bungie simply change the attack number of old guns, and let us upgrade like we can already. Just remove the elemental burn. No extra grind, no addition of yet more utterly useless materials or currency. Just the content that is useless, now being useable again. Worst idea I've read on here for a long time.
-
Maybe +1 from a Nightfall, but Daily missions? No. That would be guaranteed Raid level gear in 10-20 days.
-
Exotic material: add an elemental burn.

Great idea dude.

Etheric light. Maybe change the mechanics it works and adapt PoE to new levels. New PvE content and new ways to infuse. It would be better than it is today, not so difficult to do (apparently) but, you know, bungie SCIENCE AND LOGIC.
-
People would farm public events and raids. In days become max light, then complain because of stale content.
-
Add these as rewards to year one raids and we're golden!
-
Two ideas...make it be 5-10 of each material to get the increase, or just allow ppl to infuse low light gear into higher the same way.
-
Maybe 2-5 light. 1 light seems like not enough
-
That's a great idea! Bump!
-
Not a bad idea... How about allowing us to infuse new gear into old gear?

Every Time someone says "beta player" or "day one player" I cry.

Bump great idea:)
-
Make it functional on Year One items and you have a deal.
-
I'd be fine with the system as it is if you were guaranteed that the rewards from a raid would be equal or higher than the item you had equipped in that slot, but as it stands. Ehhhh, why not. I miss people complaining about how "impossible" Skolas was
-
It's a ok Idea, but all they really have to do is make the END GAME drops always drop something higher than your current light level. That is the biggest problem with this current system. Which makes doing the Raid a Slot Machine with the worst win ratio I've ever seen. 3x 319 characters like 50 Raid completions not 1 ghost 320. An I grinded the Iron Banner. F*ck this game
-
Hell yes, amazing idea, props to you man
-
I like this idea, makes tge grind a tiny bit less grindy.
-
Etheric light? At least, how it used to be...
-
This sounds like a great idea. I'd like to play the game to play. Lately I've just been playing what I need to play and afterwards I don't have the want or energy to play the things I want. Please bungie, at least entertain this idea.
-
I was thinking about posting something a lot like this. Although, to try and make it sound more of a grind players would have to infuse the item itself and the item would only take the place of a weapon/armor/ghost when infusing. The item would also drop in nightfalls only, but putting them as drops in old raids sounds like a really good idea.

Yay !!!! sounds just like......... etheric light !! -____________-

A method to lessen the grind and play time?? Nope, never gonna happen. As much as the playerbase wants it, bungie devs want players to keep playing. All their actions have been evidence for this. Removal of xp buff from nightfall, less reputation gains, no more glimmer from majors, adding light to previously cosmetic items, and adding this horrible light system. "Oh you got the piece of gear you needed? Well, unfortunately you need another one with more light." Don't get me wrong, I want this so bad. I'm 3 light points away from 320 on my warlock with a 319 ghost and 318 chest piece. My other two classes are 319 and 318 without swapping gear around too.
