You are fighting a WAR. This is not an adventure game Hats off to Bungie for coming up with the idea of The Taken. It was a way of introducing some variety without breaking the immersion that we are at war with a specific set of enemies.

I just find the Immersion to be lacking in Destiny since what little story there is is so poorly pieced together. Its all good if it works for you though :-)

I dont' need a story to become immersed in the action of a well-done first-person game. Which Destiny is. I don't need a story to become immersed in the environment of a well-done third-perons game like The Division or Diablo.
