The problem goes way back to before launch. Bungie went into a massive internal upheaval before year 1 launch, the evidence of that has been extensively shown for a long time now. Destiny was forced to undergo radical changes less than a year before release, and we are still feeling the effects of that. It's painfully obvious that the plan they were working on back in the Halo ODST days got scrapped at some point. The problem is that they were essentially forced into a development cycle that they are far too small to handle. The leaked roadmap showed that it was supposed to be a sustained release schedule of the level we saw in year 1. The expectations they set in year 1 were far too high for what their actual capabilities were, and it ended up a recipe for disappointment. Somewhere along the line both Bungie and Activision had to face the reality that they had designed themselves into a corner. After TDB it was pretty obvious that they could not keep going at that pace without releasing a half baked buggy mess. Even before that, there were plenty of videos showing most of the DLC 1 and 2 areas were already in the game, some even had placeholder spawns, and they still struggled for time. The way it feels to me right now is that after TTK dropped they probably had another internal conflict about whether to develop more expansions or go straight for Destiny 2. The fact that we have heard absolutely nothing about this on official channels makes me feel that they have no idea wtf to do, and its hurting them every day. Bungie devs are some of the best, most talented people that have ever built console games, but the organization supporting them is a decaying husk. The best thing they could do at this point is just admit that the entire situation is FUBAR and rebuild Bungie, as an organization, from the ground up. Even the best devs in the world can't make a good game if they don't know what the hell they are supposed to be building in the first place.
