Prior to the holiday break we mentioned a second, larger update slated for Spring. That content release will feature a significant Light increase, a bunch of new gear to earn and equip, and new challenges for PvE players seeking some more fun experiences and replayability.
Beyond that, the team is focused on delivering a large expansion later this year, and a full Destiny sequel in 2017.
As work wraps up in the weeks ahead, look for more details about the Spring content, as well as more information about our bigger projects in the months that follow.
Thanks for your patience, and thanks for playing.

I hope it's a Free expansion (probably not). We've spent loads of money though.
Overall I hope the expansion out does every other expansion for this game as a ode to the conclusion of Destiny 1.
[b]But if I have to buy it I will. At least I don't have to buy Destiny 2 this year after all.

Without details more than "it's coming," I a) am not excited, and b) can wait. Rationally, there's nothing to get excited about (raising the light level, for instance, is not an exciting thing in and of itself) in this update, because there's no information beyond "stuff will happen, stay tuned." The best I can say is I'm somewhat relieved that there will actually be some amount of new content coming to light before Destiny 2 (or whatever they call the sequel) is released next year. I was not sure they'd actually do any significant new content before Destiny 2. I have no illusions about cost, though -- this isn't going to be free updates and additions. We'll pay another $80 - $100 for it, if we want it.
