The main reason they didn't bring them forward is because of the minority of weapons EG fatebringer and ghorn were being used by the majority of people even when they didn't meet the new light standard (TDB), The problem with bringing them through would be that because everyone loves the year 1 gear so much because of how nice it was to use and how good the perks work together they would use nothing else and bungie wish people to use the new weapons they design.

 • I get that they wanted players to use more varied gear, but here's the thing; that mindset is totally for their benefit, not the players'. The initial 2.0 patch that dropped with TTK greatly nerfed all of Y1, by substantially reducing the effectiveness of individual "OP" weapons (like Thorn, or Ghally), as well as nerfing almost every single Y1 perk by around 50-80%, on average. As a result, Y1 weapons are no where near as powerful as they were, and have all balanced to Y2 levels. And, in PvE environments, regardless of how prevalent any particular weapon may be, no one was ever negatively affected by someone else's gear choice, in the first place. In fact, it was probably a net positive, because it typically made fireteams stronger, overall. I understand that the designers want players to experience all the new content AND gear they worked hard to make, and I'm not faulting them for it. But, considering that Y1 was already balanced with Y2, leaving Y1 gear behind is entirely about forcing players to use new stuff for the sake of using new stuff, and does nothing to help players.
