They should support last gen with the new update were about to get, but then let it fade. New dlc should be current gen only imo

If its a payed dlc they very well could, blizzard done the same with diablo 3, and that was just an update they brought out for current but not last and it was the best they could actually do for the game

They can most certainly cut off DLC if they wish to do so. Just look at GTA 5.
