Please elaborate?

Edited by bryanhaas: 2/12/2016 11:56:24 PMThere really isn't much to elaborate on, for something to be called music it needs to sound functionally different with and without musical instruments. Rap sounds basically the same either way. That is not to disparage those who like it, people like what they like however it does not fall under the true definition of music. It would be more akin to a kind of poetry. Btw, I used to listen to rap but have grown out of it. The above was told to me by a fifth grade teacher I believe (she is probably long dead) at the time I believe I wanted her to be full of shit but could not really refute her argument.

Lol. Music as defined by Google is "vocal or instrumental sounds (or both) combined in such a way as to produce beauty of form, harmony, and expression of emotion." A ton of rap expresses emotion, and has vocal and instrumental sounds combined to produce form.

So then is poetry music is chanting music? Google is not the definitive answer on everything try opening a book. Also just because society chooses to currently classify it as music does not make it so. You should really move on you are not going to win this one, and even if you did I will still be right. Btw since when does rap have harmony? It is mainly a bunch of people talking about what they have or who they will -blam!-. Even google seems to dispute your points. The only emotions present in rap are lust, greed and rage. So when did -blam!-, theft and murder become beauty I wonder?
