Range affects hit detection/accuracy too. They mentioned this in the patch notes moving into Year 2.

Alright!! Didn't know that! Is that why all HCs feel a bit off right now. A lot of times it feels like I hit but don't do any damage!? Anyway, it did harm hawkmoon the most!!
