If you're going to openly complain about a technique to gain special ammo through Ice Breaker, I feel sorry for your skill. Maybe you should focus your attention on something productive for yourself like improving your play style rather than bitching about other peoples' play styles. It really is not that big of a deal, it's merely an inconvenience for the first round only.

  • Even you have to admit that this trick is basically a game-changing exploit. Considering ammo awarded when switching is based on the ammo count at death? The Icebreaker's ammo exploit wouldn't be so bad if it couldn't spiral into an easy win from the first few seconds since quick use of a charged IB will give you a small car's worth of bullets. Six Icebreaker rounds goes to absurd ammo for other weapons. It's circumventing a rule everyone is expected to go by, thus invalidating an entire patch. At the end of the day, it may as well be a cheat.

  • It's not really game changing when you can out play most players with melee and grenades alone. In saying that I can see why so many average players would complain about it, but then most players play so slowly that they could wait for green to spawn anyway.

  • Yes, only average players complain about it. That's why Byf has spoken about it, and why it's been acknowledged by the top players as a game-changing exploit. Having 18 1KYS shots in round 2 without opening a single crate is absurd, and utterly gamechanging.

  • And the sudden change making such a trick viable is the concern. What will cause the meta to shift into Thorn? If you ask me, waiting to find out is not worth it. The gun needs to be further nerfed, before Trials and IB go back to the Y1 meta.

    I'm referring to those who like to use a special weapon when possible, that is a play style. OP is complaining that people cannot play without special, which is a play style. And I'm going to agree with OP to an extent; I played someone with a 2.5KD or so and he barely got a single kill. The guy messaged us afterwards and said I'm nothing without special ammo. He never got his sniper ammo the entire game.

  • Abusing an error? Are you implying Bungie had [i]no clue[/i] that Sidearms, Ice Breaker, ToM and Invective could be used to regain special ammo from spawn and gain an upper hand for the first minute of any game mode bar elimination? It's not abusing an error. It was an enthusiastic idea implemented completely wrong. Obviously Bungie didn't think too much about the whole Y1 snipers still being 1 shot kill in Level Advantages Enabled game modes. The play style I was indicating are those who like to play their special weapon. I really do not care about the whole no special ammo on start. The only place this actually matters is competitive sweats. Literally the only place it matters right now.

    Ignore the child. I actually liked your points, they do raise some places for debate. The counter-argument to the post is the whole "snowball" effect that the change can have. Round 1, lose. Opposition gets Special, you're now at a TOTAL disadvantage depending on the map. (Rusted lands, team collects sniper and camps Beach with one with shotty). If this is the way the game was "planned" for "balance" then there's a total issue. It favours total aggressive pushes for the first round. Preference to a play style punishes a lot of players, that's not fair. (Making a UFC fighter fight in a boxing ring, to boxing rules). If I run into a team who rush harshly on the first round and collect special and set up their campfire I'm not against pulling out IB so I at least have a [i]chance[/i] to get out of the snowball effect. Invective isn't an issue, people didn't complain about it before. The recharge rate is slow as hell. Rounds can end before the charge actually happens. As proposed changes? Switching any kind of special to any kind of special (bar Sidearms) will return the ammo count to 0. I'm all for giving [b]less[/b] ammo for boxes. So that if the snowball starts to happen, the team who has claimed the special has to be precise. If I have 3 shots in my sniper, I'm gonna want to go for my headshots. I won't even pull if it's a body shot because the bullets are too preciously. [u]OR[/u] this is an idea I've been toying around with for a while, that on round start every round, recharged Nade and Melee.
