Col volkov sat in the ship's galley, sipping vodka. He'd talked with a few of the crew, mostly he stayed with members of the federal army. He'd talked with the Geth a few times, it was enlightening. The synthetic life form would have fit in with the Russians, hard worker, collective minded, and intelligent. The Geth often spoke of his people, and the quarians. Volkov knew that there were at least a few onboard now, he wondered if the one captain he'd meet was here.

"Your so narrow minded. people only care for themselves. Those Feds will do anything, and I mean ANYTHING to save as many of their troops as possible and convict as many of ours, it's just simple human nature. It's another war friend, a social war, a war of the mind and of civil policy... There is no avoiding it, and I can guarantee your working to flip the switch on me as well."
-
"People only care for themselves? That's kinda funny, I've heard a lot about men and women who sacrifice themselves to save others. The soldiers, the police officers, the firemen, the Good Samaritans. I'm not the blind one, you're just bitter. You know, if you weren't such a self righteous prick, I'd pity you."

The guard busts him in the face with his rifle. Then he breaks one of the man's legs. "Quit trying to escape."
-
"Whatever..."
-
The lawyer shakes his head. "The guards have orders to kill you if you try to escape, so I wouldn't."
-
"I wouldn't count on those guards. Their necks snap easier than a bullet flies... Based on past experience."
-
"So you'd escape into a ship, far from your home, filled with federation soldiers, and robots with the directive to protect them. That's not a smart move."

"I've done it before, actually full of the best soliders in a galaxy, alongside one of the most dangerously perceptive AI in the universe" "EYOOOOOO." "I must have grown careless."

"You've grown insane. Justice will find you."

"I have no doubt"

He occasionally glanced over as he did his scans around the galley.

That got his attention. His hand left the bar table and traveled absentmindedly to his holster.

Walking into the galley came two of the more notorious mercenaries, the same that had been contracted to head to Mar Sara. The smaller one, who was carrying a sword ad had a kukri on his shoulder, moved in front of the other, who was bristling with more weapons than seemed feasible. Rifles and machine guns had been slung over his shoulders, and a massive HMG sat mounted on his right shoulder. The two looked very out of place for not being in the field. While their behavior was normal, they wore their full combat gear and looked prepared for anything. The one carrying the weaponry went and sat down, as the other walked over to see what was available to eat.

The Russian paid for a drink for both of them. He owed them that much, having heard what had happened on the planet had wired another two mil to the account.

From killing arms dealers to traveling the universe, I must admit, I'm enjoying this. Surprised the Rebs are ok with such close proximity to you gentlemen. Not too often such a thing happens. He sounded like his father, same American accent, same tone. The armor gave it the same metallic and cold sound as well.

"The peace required it. We had to show we were committed and I had a reputation of being more agreeable. You are under contract here now?"
-
They called my name at the peace accords. Guess somebody wanted me here.

"Your skill is unrivaled, your father was a legend in his time, you might soon eclipse him."
-
He laughs. Irony in it is that he never wanted me to follow him into the business.
-
"Father's never do."

Can't say he really ever wanted to be a part of what he was a part of. Debt's a hell of a driving force.
