Last Week Tonight always provides humorous news segments on sensetive topics, and this was no different. The U.S. Government is always claiming to make more and more abortion laws "For women's health", when it only makes abortion a more and more difficult process. So, #Offtopic, what is your stance on abortion and abortion clinics?

Edited by Ogma: Destroyer of Worlds: 2/23/2016 5:29:24 PMI firmly stand behind the notion of bodily autonomy. If they want one, they should be able to get it. Right now corpses have more bodily autonomy than women do in a lot of places. Which is obviously ridiculous.

Unfortunately I live in Mississippi. I sure as -blam!- don't belong here or in the south though. It's amazing to me how violent people get about abortion here. The one clinic here always has protesters outside, gets bomb and death threats daily, and the workers get harassed and dox'd constantly. It's pitiful. Until the baby becomes viable it's no more than a mere parasite. Before you take offence, consider the word parasite.
par·a·site ˈperəˌsīt/ noun an organism that lives in or on another organism (its host) and benefits by deriving nutrients at the host's expense.
That's damn near exactly what a baby does. Should abortion be legal? Yes, in any and all circumstance. If you're against abortion, you're against women's rights. It's not your body, it's not your choice.

The female is having the baby, she should be able to choose.

It should be up to the parents/parent of the child.

John Oliver is funny.... But at the same time he made this video defending Anita Sarkeesian. Even if I am pro-choice, the video is so biased with his own opinion that it loses a lot of its credibility. That's my opinion at least.
-
If a drunk driver hits a car and kills a woman and the baby inside her, he gets charged two counts of manslaughter. That means the fetus is considered to be a living person. But when it comes to abortion, its supposed to be okay because the fetus "isnt a person yet." So are we allowed to just choose what the fetus is in a certain situation?
-
I'm technically pro-choice but I think it's worth pointing out John Oliver is extremely biased and all of his segments reflect this. He doesn't even try to offer alternative view.
-
Funny how it is considered death when the heart stops. But not life when the heart starts.... #unbornbabyslivesmatter

What actually are American abortion laws?
-
My country has a good system for abortion. Basically you can get one up to the 24th week. If the mother is in danger she can get one at any point. You get them at any hospital and it's fantastically discreet. As a throw back of this we also have no babies in the system, for a child to be put in the system it has to be through neglect. I personally agree with this system and I am quite greatful for it.
-
I wonder what the US would look like if birth rates were cut in half.
-
I remember watching this and it was very impactful
-
Oh boy one of these topics So my stance on it all is somewhat similar to what I've been reading abortion should be allowed overall but if the man doesn't want it then the woman can't beg for it to be taken care of by him for her. But if the woman wants an abortion let it happen but don't make a big deal about it. And of course if it's incest or R@pe then get it aborted unless you want to keep it for some ungodly reason
-
To me, it comes down to an ethics question: If a train was going to run over a baby, but you could change the train's path the kill a woman that has lived for many years, would you change the train's path? I think that the life of a younger human is always more valuable than the life of an older one. Maybe you think that the convenience of the women is worth the life of an unborn baby. The question was an extreme one as most women having abortions aren't going to die otherwise. Maybe in cases of -blam!- and incest where the kid could be messed up I might be convinced otherwise, but it should never be a proud act to kill an unborn child. If the parents made the mistake of not getting proper protection, they should deal with the consequences. Right now, women are videotaping their abortions and acting as if they should be proud and show the world that they're doing it. It should never be like that. Abortions shouldn't be something as casual as "Honey, I'm going to the doctor for another abortion, I'll be home in a couple hours." I want to ask for some responses as to why you might or might not be against my opinion. To me, I think the life of any child, unborn or not, is worth more than the life or convenience of any mom.
-
I don't think that the woman should be able to dictate the decision... What if the man wants to and is capable of raising the child on his own? Should that right be taken away from him? To me, it seems selfish for a woman to be able kill a soon to be human being, and get away without a trial. Smh at all the democrats and feminists... Inb4anomaly

If they get an abortion bc they were careless, they should be sterilized
-
If I'm going to spray disinfectant all over the room then I'll happily kill another simple organism. #Bacterialivesmatter

Edited by Oxide: 2/25/2016 9:44:43 AMI feel it should be legal until a certain date So like within the first month or something
-
I think that having an abortion is ethically irresponsible in most cases, however I still think they should be legal to protect those that do have a legit reason and to stop people from undergoing a potentially more dangerous procedure.
-
Anytime abortion and you Should be able to kill babies until they can talk =p
-
I think that technically once the sperm fertilized an egg it is human
-
Abortion should always be legal. Even after birth. Just cremate it like you would a dog.
-
Any women should always have the decision of having an abortion or gives good birth. If they make laws about not being able to perform an abortion, then all the feminist will go ape shit.
-
Abortion is completely fine. Women can do whatever the fûck they want with their body. The only time I would think its fûcked up is if people are abusing it and just constantly getting pregnant because they don't wana pull out or use a condom and getting a shit ton of abortions. But still, it's their body. No one should tell them what to do with it
-
If your doing it just because you're to lazy to have the dude wear a condom or use birth control, you need to KYS.
